checked out the wifes TJ then a mates TJ today on my 30 degree ramp the wifes car gose 1340 up the ramp running 31s a old man emu standard lift and discos
Mates car gose 1100 up the ramp on 31s standard suspension 1 inch coil spacers and discos
the measurement is up the angle from the bottom just a straight line measurement to the center of the wheel
Disconnected the drivers rear shock and passenger side front shock drove the ramp with both cars and got 1640 on 31s the only thing stopping more articulation was that the lower front control arms hit the mounts on the diff
Thought about this some more if you were to fit a 3 inch body lift for room for larger tyres say 33s then spent say $400 max on 2 long travel rancho 9000s extended the front bump stops so that the shocks dont bottom out thats a lot cheaper than those expensive suspension upgrades and still running mostly standard stuff
Oh with both suspension set ups on the compressed side at the front the shocks still had 20mm more compresion but were stopped by the bump stops the ome shocks from the standard lift were about 2 inches longer than stock shocks but could do to be 2 inches longer again to gain max travel so if your buying ome suspension ask for longer shocks

Yea Duncan, it was pretty amazing what taking 2 bolts out did  If only i brought a Digi camera and we could have shown the fellas on here with the pics **)

Dudoop, those are some pretty big RTI numbers even before you removed the shock bolts. I thought the a OME lift with discos would get about 900 on a 20 degree ramp. Get the camera out.

Its on a 30 degree ramp mate

As I said guys we just measure from the bottom of the ramp up the incline side to the center of the wheel

"Measured up the incline"? I thought the measurement was a vertical one :?:

What is cool is that now you know how much those shocks are limiting travel. Get the LT shocks, body lift etc...

AZ - To get the RTI you have to divide the distance travelled up the ramp by the wheelbase and multiply by 1000

so 1340 mm up the ramp in a TJ (2375 mm wheelbase) gives an RTI of 564 - which is lowish for stock but should be a bit higher on a 20 deg ramp - the usual inclination for measuring RTIs.

An RTI of 900 on a 20 deg ramp is about 2137 mm up the ramp

Yup dudoop seems to be talking measurement not RTI....1300RTI on a 30degree ramp would be TuffTruck material.....

Ok guys, heres some pics of my TJ on the Ramp at Duncan's house, not the best pics (camera phone pics)

2002 TJ, Stock suspension, 1' Coil Spacers, Front Disco's (in the pics we had the Front left and Rear right Shockies Disconnected)

Sorry guys yes we are just measuring straight up the angled lenght of the ramp but i thought it was great to beable to get heaps more articulation out of the cars so easy as Wolfs car which is awsome gets 1850 up the angled side of my ramp but his car has 3 inch rancho rockcrawler kit 2 inch body lift 1 1/2 coil spacers and is running 35 inch bfgs on 10 inch rims along with disocs and a slip yoke and motor mount lift it articulats heaps but the question is value for dollars all that which everybody would love to have but cant afford against a very modist out lay that will articulate heaps lets lots more people get out into some harder ground also by only lifting the body to gain clearance for the tyres but not lifting the suspension to much you then dont have any problems with having to fit a slip yoke saving even more dollars so all your looking for from stock is tyres maybe rims if you want 33 x 12.5s 33 x 10s would fit under stock guards then front discos longer front shocks and extra bump stop extensions every thing else could stay stock or if extra dollars are avaiable you could go say a 2 inch suspension lift with the same 33 x 10s and longer front shocks but a smaller body lift lots of choises depending on your dollars I wonder why the suspension places never mension this

HEY DUNCAN,
I can see the difference in your comparo, sounds good.
Hey I spoke to Julie today (while you were out  ) And it sounds like she's almost giving you permision to "DUNCANIZE" the WRANGLER???
Cant wait to see what you come up with next mate. 8)

Trent,
Thanks for the pics.
Dudoop,
You are right, longer shocks, and a body lift is a good way to get some cheap articulation.

Ralph want to bring your car round we could disconnect the shocks and with you having the bent rancho arms see how much further up the ramp you get maybe to the top
Just on the cheap side of things making new front arms out of 1inch shed 80 pipe you would gain more articulation because of the smaller diameter of the pipe which is stronger than the original bulky plate arms which hit the locating brackets or make your own box section arms like the rancho ones which are bent would just have to reuse the original bushes or by new originals
Dam I wish I had the TJ so I could do all these things instead of having to try and convince the wife to let me play with her car anybody want a highly modified GQ patrol

hehehe....

Duncan has been bitten by the JEEP Bug. Get rid of the GQ and get a Wrangler Duncan. Should have done it in the first place hey? ;)
