Today I tackled the install of the Skyjacker NP231 Shifter Bracket. Everything went realatively smoothly, apart from a bit of grinding of the braket needed to mount onto transfer case.

Everything snapped back into place, as per instructions, whilst in 4low. Thinking all is great, went to shift using lever, Neutral no worries, 4high no worries, went to 2high and couldn't shift past 4 high.

Tried a various adjustments (as there was still room for adjustment on shift rod adjusting trunnion) to still no go past 4high?? I have not cut and welded shift rod, as still had adjustment on the rod.

Anyone have experience with this kit?

Ando,

Are you 100% sure you'e got the right kit - there are different kits for auto/man.

That is a great pic for that area of the Jeep.

With ref to Auto/Man, it bolted perfectly once I clearenced around a lump in the side of the case, bolts lined up perfectly, so can't imagine that it would have been the one for the auto.

With the Shift Rod the instructeions say to cut and weld, didn't want to do this as don't have a welder (casn get it done no worries), how much longer does the Shift Rod need to be? Don't want to cut and have no idea how long the shaft needs to be? The instructions just state this...
After installation check the operation of the
transfer case shifter. Depending on the application,
cutting of the shift rod may be necessary.
Scribe and cut the shift ro 5 1/2” from
the end of the shaft. Insert 3/8” tube spacer,
being sure that the scribe marks are in line.
Weld to produce the desired shaft length.

I have tried to move the levers underneath (when disconnected from lever in cabin)just to get me 2H but damn its hard to rotate, can shift it from 4L to N real easy but to 4H it real difficult and 2 H impossible.

I have a 1" Body lift with std x-mbr, not sure if that helps?

Will take some picture this afternoon, prob take the x-mbr off again to get a good look.

I'm not a TJ owner but why change it if you only have
98 TJ: H/Top,2" Lift,31's,K&N,TBS, BL & MML,Smittybilt bars,F&R ARB's @ 4.56:1 =>33's

and only a 1" Body lift i did not think the 1" needed the bracket only the 2"

I could be wrong as i mostly am hehehe

Your right with my current setup there are no dramas, however in the very near future I'll be putting in my RE Long Arm kit, and it has the X-duty X-mbr which raises the transfer case up to nearly flat witht he frame rails.

This show where I had to grind out the braket to get around a protrusion on the Tsfr Case casing.

Ando - you got the instructions still?
Double check that it doesn't say "will not work with AX-15 Transmission".
Now I am currently fitting the exact same kit to my TJ, and my instructions advise the AX-15 isn't compatable....But my grinder & welder disagree ;)

I have nearly finished modding mine to fit - But needed to finish removing my old body lift first (It's out now but I need to do some engine work to be able to close the bonnet).
Basically In your case I'd extend the linkage pivot arms out - but nake sure its proportional or you'll screww up the geometry.

I didn't get any instructions with the kit, just been using ones that I downloaded ie: the link above is one location. The AX15 incompatibility would have been good info before I cut up the Torque Shaft!

To get into 2H the range lever needs to be move upwards towards the front of the vehicle? Looks like mine is lacking leverage at the Shift Lever end.

The linkage pivot arms you explain are these the ones attached to the Torque Shaft?

The shifter bracket you have is now suited to manual and auto trans. As wooders said you will / may need to cut the shift rod and install the tube spacer that is provided in the kit. it is normal to not be able to shift all transfer gears until you make the necessary adjustments. If you arent getting 2H but you do get 4L your shift rod may be a touch short.
When you get the adjustments right your shifter will work really well
