Hi - just wondering if I can put 31 inch BFG tyres on a stock TJ Wrangler ie. no lift kit on it yet ?? I have a set of 31 x 10.5's on stock Alloys sitting round and would like to put them on the Jeep.

yes but apparently at full flex they rub slightly...but thats at FULL flex. i believe if ur just gonna be running around on the street most of the time i bet it will be fine.

You will also need to adjust the steering stops to prevent rubbing on the lower control arm at full lock.

just do it !!! As killa said you will rub on full lock, but then just back it off a tad and you'll be right. You can put a washer if you want to adjust your steering stop... but otherwise go for your life. Your Jeep will love you for it !!!

I've been running 31's on a stock TJ for years. Ajust the steering stop so it doesn't rub on full lock, makes the turning circle a bit wider, but it doesn't matter once you get used to it.
It won't turn the jeep into a full on rock crawler, but I take mine almost anywere.

We have 2 TJ running 31" Coopers in the family with STD susp. & do all the MJOC "C" grade trips with a problems & they look much better to.

Your speedo will be about 5 - 7km out at 100kph on the speedo (real speed 105kph) so watch out for cameras

Just throw them on. At full flex offroad they'll rub, but for on road and for normal stuff you'll probably never notice. And don't turn to full lock, or you'll hear them scrape.

they'll go on fine.

i would be carefull changing to 31's.. when i did it, i broke the rear driveshaft.. this is the weakest point of the wrangler.. when you don't change the diff ratio. to much force will be put on this.. mind you.. probably all of the above have been doing fine.. but it put's more stress on the shaft..

i put a set of 33x10.5 BFG Muddies on our tj with only a 2inch susp lift and adjusted steering stop
works a treat .(does heaps of offroad hard stuff with our club)
cheers

It took a serious rock right on point to break my tailshaft.
For road driving and ALMOST as hard as you want offroad, even with 35s, it seems to be ok. Mind you, I've replaced the traps on the rear yoke now. And the slip yoke will die in the next 12 months. I ran 31s on stock drivetrain for almost 2 years - no hassles.

31" x 10.5" definitely way to go as the stock tyres are useless in the bush.
add a washer to both steering stops so doesnt rub at full lock. also trim rubbers on spare tyre carrier so it sits properly.
