Hi all,
Just wondering, how big a tyre you can fit to stanarad tj wrangler rims and still fit to a standard tj.

Depends on how much you want it to rub or how much you are prepared to cut ;)
generally speaking 31x10.5 is the popular option - but I wanna see someone cut the guards and fit a set of 38x11.5 Boggers ;)

I always thought the BFG 33x9.5x15 would fit. Cant remember where i read that.

The tallest tyre that will legally fit a 15x7 rim is a 33/10.50R15. Only manufacturers of radials in this size is BFG, which should be enough reason to buy new rims!

For on road use is 10.5" the widest you can go on the 7" rims?

For unengineered FULLY road legal - 30x9.5 is about the max.

Our golden eagle came std with 31"x10.5" and they look fine, nice and square but i would like a fatter look. With a 2-3" lift planned soon would like to go bigger. Will change rims if have to but i like the dark coloured factory mags that are on it. Not looking for extreme just where the boundry is not necessarily on a legal stand point. If the tyre is mostly kinda sort of flatish in profile that'll do

Jono,

I suspect that the 31's you got "Std" were simply fitted by the dealer. If you check the tyre placard I'd bet my left nut that it says 225/75R15 not 31x10.5R15.
225/75R15 = approx 29"....ie increased that by 25mm and you get 30"......
I don't want you to think I'm saying don't do it - but I'd hate you to get into a debate with a coppa without the right info ;)

IMHO the ideal step up from a 31x10.5 is a 33x10.5 - just a shame there's not more of a selection in that size :(

take that silly "placard" off guys ( I mean everyone with over-size rubber)
when you're fulled over, and it's not there
the-man has no "on-board" jeep info to throw in your face

just my two cents worth
took mine off when the 31's went on the tj.

Maybe make up a sticker, could it be that hard? Just keep the stock sizes and have an optional 31" or something like that :)

Cheers
Steve

At the moment I have 235/75/15's on the tj. I have a second set of rim's which I want to put mudders on just for when I'm offroad. This set is why I wanted to know the bigest size I could fit. Just wanted that little extra ground clearance.
