Has anyone extended their towbar out? i have the standard jeep tow package with a 5cm x 5cm hitch, but since i fitted 31's with the towbar in i dont have room to put the trailer hitch over the ball as the handle hits the tyre. Is it easier to move the tyre up? or i can drill another hole further down the bar for the pin but im sure thats illeagal, anyone else had this problem and what was the solution? thanks

I have a 31 spare and standard jeep bar and I have no worry getting a coupling on, but can't open my tail gate over the handle
bit of a pain but I live with it
the attached photo of my neck may be of assistance
you can see a dust-line, where it sits within the receiver, with measurements
I think my distance from ball centre to welded join is a bit longer than usual
you should be able to drill another hole further along the square section but not sure of legalities
hope the measurements help

hey fred why don't you just remove the ball & turn the receiver over & reattach the ball & you should gain about 60mm clearance on your tow hitch. cheers.

Isle of Man is correct I checked mine and it is 280mm from cent of hole for pin to cent of hole for tow ball If yours is the same as Olfarts then mine is 55mm longer
I got mine from Foto's 4x4 so try your local 4x4 shop or give FormularOffroad a ring

If you haven't done what JeepNut said then do it. I run a 33x10.5 on the stock tail gate mount - no body lift - and a hayman reease towbar. No problems. An extended bar may help but if its still in the arc of the tyre swing then it will still hit. Anwyay any caravan or trailer shop will have a range of extended or drop hitches - ever seen the massive drop hitches on the back of some hiluxes?

My mate's camper has a standard 'quick release' coupler on his camper and i can't fit it to my jeep when i've got 31's on. Found that out while trying to pull him AND the camper off the beach at fraser when he becamse bogged. No probs when i've got my GSA on the back.

Wouldnt it be just a matter of redrilling the reciever further along it to extend it out??
