Hi

Im just wondering if anyone knows what the torque specs are on the pinion bolt (rear pinion yoke) on the rear diff should be. I have a TJ 2006 Model 65th Anniversary. I think it has a dana 44. Just ordered a new yoke so I need to know how much I need to do it up.

Thanks

Should be done up FT.
Get a rattle gun on it and hold your finger on the trigger for 5 secs at least.
You DONT want it to come undone.

Only problem is, hanging off a pinion nut with a breaker bar will almost always turn the wheels, no matter what you do to stop it.
Rattler is way better.

Im using a 19mm Im pretty sure. but its slightly loose.

Ill do it up to 180 then. Ill problebly do it up with a impact wrench, then use a torque wrench to see whether I can take it off at 180. If i cant then its tight enough.

Thanks for your help guys.

From the FSM... "tighten pinion nut to 217 to 271Nm (160 to 200 ft. lbs.)."

The torque quoted above is for the dana 44 axle. if you have the 35 you're supposed to torque up to 200 lb-ft then measure the rotating torque and torque up in 5 lb-ft increments (to a max 350 lb-ft) till you get the correct rotating torque.
