replace it now before it breaks and does damage to your center.

Josh - As all have said REPLACE IT. Grenaded mine a while ago and it damaged my locker, it cost me $180 for the parts to repair my air locker, let alone the labour and the axles etc on top of that.

Although, Super Pezz helped out with a free long end to get me home.....

yeah and i dont even drive the tj all that hard either. plus i only have 31's.

so the moral of the story is - if you put a locker, upgrade your axle shafts.

It is an option and recomended, but not a requirement.

no,
the moral to the story is,

reguardless off what axles you have, regular axle inspections should be carried out to minumize chances of failure

this is why
We installed one of these in a Dana 30 front axle in Matt's CJ-7. Matt's Jeep runs 33" Swampers, Tera-Low, rear Lock Right, and a 4.2L 6 cyl. It has been a perfect addition to the Jeep. Additional traction was noticeable immediately. There were no real adverse affects with having an automatic locker in the front of the Jeep, the locker is almost invisible when driving off road. If the Jeep's hubs are in on the street there is a slight noticeable pull when steering from a dead stop. With the Jeep's hubs out the locker is disconnected so there is no noticeable difference.

this type of locker works on the drive/ over drive principal
like a detroit does
as ypu dont hve free wheel hubs on the front and the front shaft is being driven by the front wheels you dif is probably staying locked so this is cuasing the problem

So what do you guys recommend in the way of axel swaps (brand)?

And a dumb question - is less splines stronger or weaker?

And a dumb question - is less splines stronger or weaker?

Generally more splines means larger shaft diameter - which is where a majority of the extra strength is gained.......Although I'm still keen for upgrade to 8 spline shafts F&R ;)

seems to be a bit of a difference between 1040 steel and 4340 chrome-moly.

so jeepology just get ones that are 4340 chrome-moly.

the auto locker i have is slightly different to the normal auto locker. it has the ability to disengage (without ratcheting). it allows the one wheel to travel faster than the other ie around corners but when power is applied it will lock 100%. its for that reason i chose the powertrax no-slip.
so maybe with mine i was turning on rocky surface (with 4wd engaged) and applying power. that may have caused the twist.
but both left and right shafts have the twists.:?: :?: :?:
so i dunno. either way stock axles are weak:!:
