Hi all,
I just purchased my first Jeep, its a 1999 Jeep Wrangelr TJ Sports manual in 'Burnt Chili' Red.... and man i love it!!! :D:D:D

I love driving it around town with the softtop down, man its great!

I live in Auckland New Zealand as the title says. Just wondering how many other Jeepers there are in Auckland or NZ?

Cheers,
Toby

Hi and welcome. I am in Auckland. There are few Kiwi Jeep owners here on the forum. If you are looking for places to go, best bet would be to join a local club. Where in Auckland are you exactly? If Central, Auckland 4x4 Club would be a got choice (with many Jeep owners as members).

Hi,
Sorry about the late reply, been away.
I'm in Manurewa, Auckland. We should get together some time and go have some fun!! :D Now that winter is basically here there will be some great mud holes around the place!!

I should have brought a Jeep sooner, this car is sooo much fun!!
I'm now starting to look at things to upgrade and buy for it, what things have you guys been buying for your Jeeps?

I'm also looking for places that sell Jeep parts... cheaply! Hard to find in NZ. Anyone brought from either http://www.quadratec.com/ or http://www.discountjeepparts.com/ These places came up after a quick Google search.

@cantab27 @cj4a_nz: Whats the 4wd'ing like in Christchurch?? I'm a regular there for the snow, but i havn't been for 4wd'ing yet, am keen to try it down there this winter in some snow! Short of that, i might drive from Auckland to National Park (say, desert Road for example) and play in the snow there.

Thanks for your replies before.

Toby

The list is a big long for me, but mostly covers the past 7 years. I do regularly use Quadratec and they are pretty good with service. I also use SummitRacing (www.summitracing.com (http://www.summitracing.com)) for parts, another good company. I have not used Discountjeepparts though.

Its difficult to find anybody who carries stuff for Jeeps. The only real option you have is ARB (through local dealers). I am running front and rear ARB bumpers, saved damage to panels on a number of occasions.

What is your intended purpose, the list would depend on that.

I will have my OME springs up for sale in a couple of weeks. I have just now bought Currie springs to replace them. Mainly because my set-up is too heavy for OMEs to handle. A lighter Jeep could use them easily.

Yeah, I have used Greg for some stuff. He mostly carries Rugged Ridge and ORV stuff. But for some odd reason, what I need is not carried by him! Another good source is of course Wooders (www.wooders.com.au (http://www.wooders.com.au)) and also BlackJack Welding - both supporters of this forum.

I have also found Rokmen (www.rokmen.com (http://www.rokmen.com)) to be great to deal with. But Rokmen don't ship overseas, so I get them to send to Idaho address and then use BuyUSA (www.buyusa.co.nz (http://www.buyusa.co.nz)) to bring them across. Thats a great service as well.

Oh mate, your all legends!! Thanks for those links! Much appreciated!

@cantab27: Oh sweet as thanks for that, might just have to take you up on that offer, Thanks, have us a mean fun time!!

My intentions at this moment is just to get a feel for the vehicle, and have some fun with it, then ill really get down to customizing it.

The jeep will be a work car during the week and a fun-vie in the weekend, so I cant do any huge suspension lifts or anything like that (as I still need it to be road legal and (fairly) decent on fuel...).

Just having a look around the forum and reading up on 'NZ 4WD mag' and the 'Australian 4x4 Action - Custom Guide', I wouldn't mind starting with some body work first, so that will be bumpers, side guards, and skid plates (fuel, sump, tranny, the usual), then seeing how much suspension sag I get from that ill see how far I take the suspension.

All this of course depends on the cost needed. I don't want to go too overboard as this is my first 4x4 and don't want to loose too much when I come to sell it on in the future.

My apologies, i haven't taken any better photos of the new toy yet. Will post some more pics soon. :p:p

What sort of mods have you guys done??

Cheers,
Toby

Some of the stuff off the top of my head:

- BFG Muds
- OME Lift (being replaced with Currie springs and shocks to be selected)
- Brown Dog motor mount lift
- ARB Front and Rear Bars
- Rokmen Gas tank skid and lower control arms
- Rubicon Express upper control arms and steering stabiliser
- JB Conversion Super Shorty SYE with Truspeed and Tom Wood driveshaft
- Warn 9.5xp with in-cab controls
- JKS disconnects
- Mopar deep transmission pan
- Uniden CB
- BlackJack Welding steering skid plate

Once springs are replaced, front and rear adjustable trackbars will on as well.

But, that has been over 7 years and in stages.

My WG is stock standard.

Dam that sounds mean!! Yea i wouldn't mind doing most of those to mine!!
Hadn't thought of the motor mount lift. How much does that raise it by?

Mostly its been replacing factory components as they broke (slowly).

I am using 1" MMLs from http://browndogindustries.com/cu2883-11mmlultra-flexrubber-1.aspx

Really good guys to deal with and they ship overseas very promptly (I actually re-painted mine black).

I'm on South Titirangi Road, 900m down from the village. They have a regular French market at French Bay now and if the tide's low, I drive there around the coastline from the bottom of South Titirangi Road!
