I went to grease the front end of the TJ up for the first time last night with my new supercrap grease gun, I put the end of the grease gun to the zerk fitting and it clipped on, but now I can't get it off. Is there a special way of getting them off or what? I've had to drive to work with the end still attached to the fitting.

cool story! They are tight when new, and you should be able to pull it down to the side and it should unclip - don't pull back on the fitting.

Most of the fittings on the grease gun hose unscrew for adjustment.
Is there a nut on the hose end of the fitting?

LOL I hope it wasn't a unit joint that it;s stuck on ;)
Anyhow common prob - just use a screwdriver to pop it off.

I broke the nipples off two RE joints before I worked out that the fitting was adjustable:oops:

Yeah cheers guys, I too didn't realise the end was adjustable (it was hell tight to adjust), I spent bloody ages last night trying to get the prick off, yanking on it using screwdrivers and an awful lot of colourful language.

Nice on-topic reply about grease nipples.
I am posting this in anticipation of a headlights thread.

that is an internal zerk. A zerk, or nipple, is clip-on type.

Got these farkers on my driveshaft in some weirdo thread (3/16 UNF) and couldnt find a proper grease nipple to fit so bought a miniature Kincrome one with a pointed tip and works a treat.
Can someone tell me why they make these ********s of things and why the bizarre thread so i cant swap them over?
Ian or Wayne? anyone?
i think they are used in areas were you need clearance or there is a chance it will catch and get broken off. i have and adapter the clips into my normal grease gun to grease them. prob like your pointy tip one. works well.

Yeah, spot on Ian.
They are popular in the US..
Drive shafts, u joints etc...
Basically anywhere the part they are on is moving, can't be snapped off if they are flush.
Don't know why the funny thread??
