Had a friend help me who had done one before (so had the circlip plyers needed for the job). Fairly straight forward, pretty simple when you get everything apart. Only hiccup was stripping the yoke nut, instructions say torque to 180 ft-pounds, got nowhere near it and it stripped. So only went to 100 ft-pounds (with new nut) and is fine. Check your chain and front yoke bearings while your there aswell.

Took us about 3-4 hours to do but will take longer if it's your first time

There are many write-ups on the net for doing an SYE. Kit will probably also have instructions. Its not difficult. Here is my experience with it:

Hope it helps.

i recently did mine by myself following that vid posted above. The circlips are a pita, but otherwise an easy job. I would save that $700 for other toys and tools and do it yourself. Good learning process. Dont forget the adjustable upper arms

it's the one where you cut the rear shaft of the transfer case.

Na. I wouldn't say so, does the same thing as a super short, but your tail shaft is a bit shorter, so you might get some vibs if not set up right

I did the hack & tap and I'm getting vibrations. Apparently the angle of the diff has a lot to do with it.

My diff was pointing far too low to start with, so I pointed it up - now I think it's pointed too high so I'll try taking it back a few turns of the upper control arms and hopefully that makes a difference. How important is it to have the control arms the exact same? Will it throw the alignment out if they're not exactly the same?

Mine is pointed a little bit below straight.. maybe i just lucked it but i didnt even measure my control arms to check lol..

I sorta did - counted the turns back from maxed out but how accurate that is I don't know. I've been told that it's OK but just wanted a 2nd opinion. I think mine is a bit above straight. Apparently when you accelerate the gearbox lifts a certain % which kicks that little bit below straight back into a straight line, hence getting rid of the vibes.

SYE Install is easy, just make sure you have the flat headed citclip pliers which open out and you should be done within 5 hours or so. Very easy and the differance is huge.

I would, but I'm on the Gold Coast. If you buy your stuff from wooders they're pretty good with helping you out if you're stuck. It's really not that hard, although admittedly I've only put the SYE light on mine but the heavy duty one shouldn't be too much harder. I found some really neat instructions...

http://www.4x4xplor.com/SYE-CV.html

It's pretty much showing you how to do it step by step.
