Opposite. I vote SYE.

i vote winch. you will get away with transfer case drop for longer (on2.5lift) than not being able to self recover...all depends on what wheeling you do i guess

SYE, do it properly, and it will save you limping home with a busted rear output shaft. Buy a cheap tigerz11 later on.

Nothing. You should stop spending money of your heep, and instead save it for a rainy day.
Otherwise, one day you'll be a homeless bum living in your jeep, with a rusty old winch on the front. :)

Seeing your TC drop is working for you go the Winch, but make it a good one! You'll need it to drag your dropped belly off everything lol.
I have a Warn M8000 & it works a treat. Soon going to upgrade the cable to Amsteel synthetic winch rope, seems to be pretty good stuff.

Okay so I've decided to go the sye first as that is the main way I get stuck and sye will let me get rid of the drop spacers anyone give me some advice on the install is it an at home job or for mechanic

junk my ass, ive had a second hand one for ages which was previously used on pezz's rig. it has had a massive workout... never let me down. Sure you wouldnt take it in a winch challenge but its plenty enough for what i do...

my was still going when two Warns broke down on a rope road trip too! and was the only winch left going at the end of the weekend...

i do agree they are chinese rubbish, but dont knock it till you tried it, youll be surprised how tough they are...

i do want a 8274 with all the goodies, but by wallet doesnt.

I had an Ironman one when they were released to test out and try to break and as much as i hated it we could not stop it or kill it even with 50 comp recoveries at mud guts, As far as i know it's still kicking now but apart from the winch itself everything else on it was junk as far as solenoids, controls, brake, freespool and stuff like that went.

shake n bake had a ironman that constantly flattened his battery all by itself .
my old boss had a tigerz11 that would not pull and when we were respooling it
in the workshop the solendoid stuck on and pulled the cable through the fairlead
ripping the hook off he then removed it and put it in the bin .

Don't be afraid of the spiel touted by the above members with too much $'s. Warn are nice but simply out of reach for many people. I plan to fit a sub $1000 winch in the next year or two. For me it's a case of a cheap winch or no winch, i can't afford a warn. I'll probably get a tigers11 with rope, but i don't plan on using it regularly.

The Tigers11 winches get great reviews as do the superwinch and ironman winches. If you plan on using it more than a few times per year in anger than a warn is tried and tested however the other brands seem to hold up well.

cheers

My Ironman was connected through an Isolator on the XJ so i never noticed that prob.

I have a Warn Magnum now on my TJ and couldn't be any happier with it. For the price it just works exactly how i wanted it to and fitted perfectly in the ARB bar. I've belted the hell out of it for the last 12 months and it's still percect.
