assuming its a dc shaft and you have an sye are you saying that the slip joint has seized ?
so u have a sye,, and a double carden driveshaft? and it wont extend?

yes the slip joint wont slip
I asked about it when I picked it up & was told its all been renewed & is a tight fit
but not wanting to get grease on me I didnt over exert to try and move it.
I thought once I bolted it back to the gear box Id be able to pull it out the 25mm it
needs
but it looks like I have to tie it to the shed and the car to pull it out

Should have a grease nipple on the slip shaft.
Some shafts have a threaded ring/cup that covers the end seal and shaft, if they have been done up really hard they are very tight to move.
