Hi, I currently have a JK CRD and my Dad is looking at getting a run around wrangler for summer and I have spotted this one in the UK. I have very little knowledge of this model wrangler and am after some input into whether it would be a good buy. Mainly things like is it a good suspension kit and if the engine is a reliable one and anything I should be worried about. To me it looks very tidy, and by looking at the specs seems to be impressive and done using reputable manufacturers products, but would like some experienced input. Sorry for my lack of knowledge but I do know a lot more about my JK. (replace ** with tt in the link) please dont :hammer: me

Many thanks and any input would be GREATLY APPRECIATED

First question. is this a serious question?

If it is, I personally would never buy such a heavily modified rig from someone I did not know personally.

Knowledge of this model would not be required as there is so little left of the original equipment from the 2002 model it wouldnt even be worth owning the service manual.

Yes it is:cool:

I know its heavily modified but have spoken to the guys who are selling, all the work was done by a reputable 4x4 place in the UK and all receipts are available. What I am struggling with is the fact that I know nothing about modifications on the TJ model, I know a lot about the JK and what lifts are good, how all the suspension works, what axles/tyres combos can be run without putting to much stress on anything, but with the tj I have zero knowledge and am just wanting some pointers as to what to weary about. I dont have time to do much research into everything, but thought the tj guys could give some input/ advice.

This will be used mainly as a daily run about and maybe taken on a few trial days if I can find any nearby.

What a beast, looks like no expense was spared on the build, would love it myself, if it looks as good in the flesh I would say go for it, at that price you couldn't build it yourself & all the hard work is already done, just get it inspected by a reputable mechanic, make sure you test drive it & see if you can live with it as a daily driver, are there any issues with driving modified vehicles on the road over there, In Aus they would try & lock us up for driving such a great vehicle on our roads due to the long arm suspension, lift & big tyres

Hey thank you for your enthusiam. Yeh the guy who had all the work done has apparently had numerous american cars and every few years he gets a new one and does EVERYTHING to it, then sells it on, at a very high loss in money:D There is almost no demand for these types of vehicles in the UK due to the ridiculous price in fuel. But to me I can see the amount of work gone into it and it seems like a real bargain to me. I could pay for a lot of fuel buying this rather then doing the work myself.

Yeh will definitely go for a drive. In the UK you can get away with pretty much any lift you want along as it passed its MOT (which is pretty easy to pass) and that you notify the insurance company of all the mods. Heck you can get away with driving this on the roads

LOL you might be surprised at how mild this one really is. There are plenty of TJs with similar lift, long arms and yet are fully engineered & road registered.

Anyhow on to the vehicle - overall it's very impressive. A few things I personally wouldn't do - but not bad:
* I prefer actual lockers to the TrueTracs - but they are a strong LSD and work well.
* I am not a fan of the Warn hubs - I feel they add very little value. the 5x.45" are IMHO weak, but the 5x5.5 are much better so whilst I wouldn't fit them myself, there no real drawback.
* Doesn't say the wheel width, but they are clearly at least a 15x10 which IMHO with a small backspacing places a higher load on the bearings & balljoints. It's not a big issue I'd just personally prefer 8" with more backspace.
* Although there's no tyre carrier - at least it's the tyre carrier compatible bumper.
Overall I think it's a nice looking unit and there is no way you could build it for that price. I'd go for it.

Apologies for the short first response, I really didnt think you were serious!!!

6 inch total lift on 36in (by 12in or more at a guess) tyres with long arm suspension and a triangulated rear end (no rear panhard rod), pushed along by a 380 bhp supercharged 4.7 litre stroker as a daily runabout... Hmm... A little over the top me thinks!

At least they have upgraded the brakes to slotted disc front and rear, still prob not really enough given the leverage of 36in tyres ont he braking system, but if it passes engineering tests then go for it.

Just remember though that if anything goes wrong with it you wont be able to take it to the local jeep / chrysler guy. All work will be by specialised mechanics unless he/you is capable of most of your own work.

How much off road playing is available in that neck of the woods?

There is a few long arm TJ's a round and few JK's here in Perth....

It's a good looking rig, It will be thirsty...

If thats not a prob then do it....

The NSW policeman will have to change his underpants if he sees one of those driving around here. You will be locked up and the key will be thrown away. :-)

HAHA to all the responses. It is a bit crazy but im sure it will be a bit of fun. We just moved from Aberdeen in Scotland down to Devon where its a lot more busy and fast cars are no fun due to traffic and the width of roads. So we figured getting a mean truck would be more enjoyable. (not having to care much about paintwork etc)
As far as fuel economy I haven't asked but would imagine it would be in the 7-13 mpg ballpark. About half what the current car does. It wont be used long distances, just more of a toy.
About off-roading over here are a few clubs that I have yet to join and they know about the local places and have a few fun days. I will certainly go to them with this jeep as its a bit more modded than the JK:)
