Wrong Fuel-and is it that bad? 7.5litres

Gee where do I start.. so to try and compact this a bit. I have a 2009 diesel sport Jeep that had quarter tank of diesel in it and I put 7.5 L of petrol! Accidentally I realised turned it on moved a couple of metres and then got it towed. Mechanic took the tank out and drained it. I have picked it up from the mechanics drove 10 km with everything sounding pretty normal potentially.

I heard a quick hiss sound while over taking a truck at 110km but otherwise I thought all was fine.. but after stopping for a short time and then starting it wouldn’t start and I had to call the NRMA the NRMA sprayed some air in the filter and it went.

I drove half a kilometre to add more diesel $80 to top it up and when I started again it wouldn’t start cool there and they sprayed some more air in it and it went again. It went for about 2 km and then as I was driving it chugged and stopped..-like it had run out of petrol?. called NRMA again got towed back to the mechanic who then put a fuel filter in it. It’s still didn’t go. It wants to start the motor wants to start, but it’s not turning over..

Mechanic said they can’t do anything else because I don’t really work on jeeps so the NRMA to it back to my driveway where it has been sitting for three weeks while I’m researching what to do. I’ve learnt about fuel pumps and fuel relays, fuel ratios-5% is ok..injectors that could cost a packet.

someone mentioned that there’s a test that you can do to see whether there is if fuel pump but I can’t find the information anywhere talking about putting diesel in something and if it goes and it’s not the fuel pump in this air sucking it but I’ve read through so much information that I can’t remember? Not only that but mechanics around my area don’t seem to want to fix jeeps hard to get someone to have a look at it.

So I went and bought a Suzuki Vara diesel for 5000 which I’ve had for one week now and it is pouring out diesel potentially the rear main seal so I’ve been looking into that too!

did I mention that I’m a lady that doesn’t really want to be working on my car? And I’ve already spent thousands trying to get them right-with half the time mechanics that don’t have enough knowledge to work on them. About 4 years ago I had a grand Cherokee 2010 that suddenly started leak a lot of coolant. I’m Mechanic said he could fix it for one and a half.

This turned into 3000 then turned into 5000 and then turned it to 6500! For a new cooler! I had to sell the car after that because I couldn’t afford to keep it with the loan that I got to fix it! -turned out that was a rat that the pipes.

So now I have my Cherokee sport that I really like, but it’s not going and it might not be as complicated as the fuel pump? And do I need a whole assembly or just the pump…

Where are you located ????....there may be a forum member in your area that can recommend a workshop...incorrect fuel shouldnt totally wreck your engine...its quite possible the fuel system simply requires a flush n new filters...yes again...more new filters...once the petrol is gone from the fuel system your problems 'should be solved'....GOOD LUCK.
ps: Diesel doesnt not pour out of the rear main seal....that seal is fitted between the block and the crank sealing oil into the engine oil sump...if diesel is pouring out of the suzi there is simply a leak in the fuel lines...again...your location may help as a 'real workshop' will sort that in no time.

A dose of Fuel Doctor may help. Normally if you put unleaded in the tank, in this cold weather, its ok up to about 15%. Probably when it first was contaminated, you could have just filled the tank with diesel & been ok. Given it is a KK, you have the second generation CRD, Piezo type-high pressure injectors & a 2.8 ENS VM 4-cylinder engine. Did the check engine light come on? If so, do you know what codes were there?

A Bosch certified diesel injection specialist is your best bet. Maybe carry a can of Aerostart or similar with you. Once a regular mechanic starts trying to fix it, they will just start replacing sensors & solenoids hoping the problem will go away. A Bosch diesel injection specialist should be able to properly diagnose what the real problem is.

Engine light did come one. Not sure what the codes were. But will find out! Thankyou. Put some fuel additive in a few days ago after some hard research.

            Located Tammworth area.
sounds like a good fix more fuel filters. Better than injectors. Jeep is in Tammworth but they are quoting a lot just to have a look.. as they say they would pull it apart. Diesel mechanic could be good.
yep-re-Suzuki -meant diesel oil. ( not fuel)
I have 2 cars unknown amount of work. But the Suzuki I just bought for 5000 as couldn’t get Jeep going-or find anyone to have a look. - it was a dud buy.

              I agree with other posters,
that you explained was a relatively small amount of petrol added and then only operated for short time and then cleaned out, would likely not have had much affect on the fuel system or the engine. The underlying reason for the ‘money lite’ coming on may give some guidance to the problem. Finding a competent reliable diesel technician is the real problem.

Try talking with a 4WD Club or Car Racing Club in Tamworth to find out who they use as a Workshop...a Transport Company or Earthmoving Company will have info on who is a 'good Diesel Workshop' in Tamworth...NRMA Depot will mostly likely have the correct scan tool to read any codes...if your a Member the cost is free...if not, it wont be expensive...the Diesel Workshop may or may not have the correct scan tool to read all the codes as some are scan tool specific...

dont stress and just think a li'l outside the box...Dealerships are not anybodies friends....those days are well gone....GOOD LUCK....stay in touch here and let us know the outcome or ask for assistance....somebody will have sound advice

A person said to find out if it’s the fuel pump: hook up diesel to the high pressure main pump on the engine and if it starts it’s not the fuel pump.
How do I do this? Have I written the instruction wrong?

Thankyou so much for all your helpful comments-it’s given me hope. Otherwise I have 2 broken cars & no job soon. It’s been really hard to find a mechanic to look at Jeep 2009 kk diesel.
