Have read a number of posts with the same story...on FB...some losing up to a k a litre on average...as well as in some cases an increase in DPF burn frequency? I was supposed to get mine done next week at Bundy, but the Dealer rang me today and cancelled until Feb next year as haven't got the parts! That doesn't inspire me with much confidence,,,

Near 10k since Recall....fuel useage on hiway runs has dropped to 8.4-8.8/100...100kph or 110kph....drop on normal runs to 9.4/100....but....an increase to 10.4/100 when 'getting into it' over extended distances....car behaved a li'l 'placid' for first few thousand Klm's.
Hard to make a definite comment as mine is the 5spd and the 2nd FP Relay Recall was performed at the same time.
I found a vacuum line left disconnected, by the Dealership when performing the HPFP Recall, from the rear of the HPFP going to a junction box behind the thermostat housing....7 Slot explained it was a vacuum for brake booster and other mechanisms involved with EGR n burns....no noticeable change after I reconnected the line (car was then flat bedded to 7 Slot to have the blown EGR Coolant line and the Oil Cooler Z Hose replaced).
I have fitted new tyres (larger circumference of new tyres will give better fuel figures...same size tyres but now full tread) and I treated it to a new Air Filter (10k on old filter).
Soooo.....many variables...hard to put one thing in front of the other.
Car does 'run' smoother....is quieter in the HPFP area (but...I have been using Fuel Doctor b4 Recall was performed)....if anything it is not as 'quick to respond' to pedal application...ie: seems to 'electronically adjust itself' to prolonged 'gentle' Cruz control settings and has to be stabbed 'hard' and has a li'l 'delay' b4 launching when overtaking....nothing that's annoying, just a tiny bit noticeable compared to how it performed before all these changes and recalls.
Fairly sure a reset/upgrade/reflash has been performed by the Dealership.
My suggestion to those experiencing a reduction in performance and increase in fuel usage is to STAND ON IT A LOT to let the 'electrickery' adjust to various driving methods.

ps: Have to add to those changes that both diffs and the transfer case were also serviced. Difference now is, no Morey's was added to these casings at that service....so the Oil viscosity would have lowered...less resistance...improved fuel economy.

Question to those that have had the HPFP Recall done AND changed their Fuel Filters since the Recall.
I did my 10k service today ..fuel and oil filters...new oil....has done a hard 10k this cycle....hi ambient temps...hiway speeds for up to 12hrs/day....maybe one or two quick stops in that day....an average top speed more than usual.
When the Fuel Filters were removed I noticed a 'mesh type' cage inside the Filters Housing.....now....I used Ramps this time and had a very good view of the internals of the Housing, as against previous services where a 'going by touch and feel' method was used..... however....Im almost positive I have not seen this 'cage' internal of the Housing....almost positive the Housing was 'open' when the filters were removed ?????
Now, my bus being an old '13 5spd Model, the 2nd Fuel Pump Relay Recall was also performed along with the HPFP Recall.
Unsure if the 'mesh cage' is part of the HPFP Recall OR the 2nd FP Relay Recall ???.
The 'mesh cage' was perfectly clean...only done just shy of 9k since the Recalls...also started using Fuel Doctor 4k b4 the recalls, so the fuel system was 'clean' prior the Recalls.....the filters came out cleaner than I have seen in my 60k of ownership using 10k Service Cycles.
Also...replaced the Catch Can (Provent 100....THANK YOU Jeeper6) filter after being 'warned' by the Owner at 7 Slot that they no longer fit Catch Cans to our Engines, as 'lack' of maintenance of these filters can cause pressure build up and 'blow' the rear seal out of the engine ...I don't really to have worry here as I always drain the Catch Can 'regularily'....if not at the 10k Service...after a hard run or a tow or out of curiousity. 7 Slot stated they use 'electrickery' to take the need for a Catch Can out of the equation ...for those smart enough, you will understand what they are doing to complete this process....not going to post it here.
Soooo.....back to the 'mystery' of the Mesh Cage inside the Fuel Filter Housing.....any input from the Brains Trust ???

I'm now intrigued as I think I saw empty space from memory but I'm not really paying attention ... I'll have a lookie next time... I did a service just before I dropped mine off a Armstrongs but didn't do the fuel filters as I was led to believe they changed them when they did the pump and sure enough new filters but if they fitted something inside they didn't remove the housing by the look of mine......................... ..... My catch can has been fitted so if the filter clags up and has a pressure build up a hose will pop off and a Provent has blow by vents in case, maybe more like kink hose, I fitted elbows so no curves, gets dumped and flushed every service.

Copy all of that....and the Catch Can fitted to mine has elbows ..no kinked hoses....it would appear the 'cages' are fitted when the filters are pulled by the Stealership....quite possibly can be removed using a 'scribe tool'.....not that keen to keep them in for an unlimited period...it's a filter...it will do just what it's name implies and require replacing at 'some stage'
Fuel Filters fitted by Stealership were UFI Filters and had the 'torque setting' cast on the filter itself....look VERY much like WIX/COOPER Filters to me, as far as the filter material goes.
