    Exhaust regeneration on dash

    Hello forum,

had the engine light and a message on dash: exhaust regeneration required.

    Can someone share with me
how to complete the Regen or is it a mechanic thing.

    thank you

For starters I would go for a good drive, 30 mins at minimum of 80kph once engine warmed up then run for at least another 15 mins, to make sure the excess fuel that ends up in sump is burnt off , the regen should happen on its own but does require to be warmed up and running above 80kph for at least 30 min when you get a dash sign, if continues to flash you need to force a regen if you don't have the gear then its a workshop, in that case be choosy as its easy to get ripped off.....................
You should be good if you can get a good long speed run down the highway, a standard regen takes about 6 mins to burn with temps of 600c, certainly might be longer if the dash sign has appeared ................... I prefer the get on the highway and drive it like you hate it for as long and fast as you can, diesels need to work hard they hate just driving Miss Daisy rides.

The main cause is just tootling around town or lots of idling though the wrong oil will make havoc as well, its not a Jeep thing any CRD with a DPF suffers the same.... try to get a good run weekly should keep the devil away.. Oil needs to be a C3 or CJ4 oil of 5W40 or 10W40 brand is irrelevant.

If you don't have a scan tool yourself to force the regen....and the long hard drive method doesn't solve the problem....RAA/NRMA those state vehicle services...any state.....have the tool and ability to perform the forced regen..mine cost $65....there's your heads up

Thank you for the feedback guys.

My scan tool gave me 2 - P1D30 codes : oil viscosity is too low.

i did an oil change about 200km ago. Used the penrite DPF oil .

The specs required are what Drover noted.....a few brands make the spec....doesn't matter which brand you use.
Also...out of curiosity...how much Oil did you put in the Engine at the recent Oil change ???
My Forced Regen was brought about by an overfill....that's why I ask.
If you have a scan tool....the members will be able to advise how to activate the Forced Regen.
          Good luck

I'd drop your oil and see how much is in there - if it's over capacity, it's likely a bunch of fuel is making its way into the sump, reducing oil viscosity. The symptoms you're experiencing - full DPF requiring a forced regen and low oil viscosity - usually indicate something's stuffed in the DPF burn process. Usually it's the DPF injector or something else involved in the process, instead of the DPF itself

Agree....I would be very concerned about a code indicating low oil viscosity with the history of bearing failure in these buses

The fellas above are spot on and What was the actual oil specs you used ???? It sounds like its been trying to do a few burns but short runs meant it didn't complete so kept trying and in doing so your oil has been getting watered down with diesel and not a long enough drives taken to get it to evaporate out of the sump..... Mine will take 7.5lts with a filter change ............ and I run a 10W40 CJ4 oil in mine mainly as I can do a lot of towing and hope the HD of the grade helps, CJ4 in 5W40 isn't common but a C3 is perfectly okay ....
