'06 crd jeep won't start for 40+ minutes after a run

Hi, firstly I can't find my original post about this problem so,
When I go for a drive more than 5-10 k's the jeep won't start again for around 40 minutes.
There is nothing wrong with the battery or starter motor, all electrics work fine but when you turn the key there is nothing ( no click, no attempt to start). I bought a new switch/electrical thingy that hangs off the back of the ignition but it has made no difference. I've tried swapping relays etc with no luck and fuses all look good.
It's like something is getting hot and needs to cool down.
At the moment I can drive to work and after work drive home but it then won't start.
Wondering if anyone has any ideas.
    Thanks in advance.

One last thing, it's had the engine light on for around 4 years, code reader says egr problem but it hasn't impacted on driving all over Australia. This problem started about 6 months ago?.

Im not sure if I answered this previously (maybe in your other post)? Have you tried inserting the key after removing and then turning it 180 degrees? My WH needs that occasionally...

    Perhaps also try spare key.

    Cheers.

Hey Amused2Death, some of the old hands here might have an answer but this is the WK2 thread so have the Italian engine and not the German job, some may be able to remember their WH days though.............. as usual I would be starting with a load test on the battery and have some one listen when you turn the key to see if the fuel pump growls for a few seconds...... just a start.

Hang around as we have some fellas that have had time with the WH/K ................. I went from the WG to WK2 and skipped the WH so not much help with any hands on...

First thing. can you please post exactly what codes, that is the number, are showing with the code reader. Not your interpretation. Do the reading when you get to a destination, so the engine is not starting.
It could be a sensor getting hot & so not working. Even a dry fuse connection could do it.

            Ok,
Firstly the forum says WK WK2 so I thought I was in the right place as a google search before I posted said 2005-2010 WK and WK2 2011 onward and I have 1 of each.

Now replaced batteries in both keys and made no difference, all you get is a clicking sound from under the dash.
Only code I'm getting is P1405 which is an EGR code that has been there for a few years. History= a few years ago Jeep went into limp mode and the swirl motor fix was applied and the engine light refused to go out no matter what was tried. A year or so later the Jeep started blowing huge clouds of black smoke under acceleration. Took this to a mechanic (no longer around as retired) and the problem was fixed but I don't know what they did. Engine light still loves to stay on.

I was convinced the key had something to do with it and that's why I changed the module attached to it. I did shorten the wait once by slamming the key into the ignition in anger and turning it and it started. I don't see how the barrel could be at fault as how would it get hot, though ambient temp does seem to affect the problem. I can drive to work (7-8 kms) and it will start fine as its cool at 6am but drive home in 35c and it's a no go.

The wifes best friend has a 13 and she has a 14 and he just spent $2500 of my $ doing the water pump, then taking the valley out and replace hoses there as preventative and lots of other stuff like catch can with happily no labour charges.
He knows nothing about the OM642 diesel and sadly due to owning an 06 Chrysler 300c I know more than I want to.

I need to get both problems fixed so I can get a roadworthy and look at perhaps selling it.
I'm at the stage of biting the bullet and taking it to an auto elec but I've spent a lot of dollars in the last few months on these vehicles and I'm in the middle of a reno.

            That's all I have.
            Thanks
            Steve

Edit, when i changed the module on the ignition i was sitting in the seat the whole time, now I've just had a look under the dash and found more fuses etc so I will have to check those out.

Have you tried cleaning the MAF or MAP sensor?

All this time I hadn't noticed the heading never changed when the WH section was moved to be with the XH, WK/WH being same same but not so WK2, WK and WK2 does cause lots of confusion as both having 3lt diesels they do get mixed up at times ............... Wasn't having a go though, lots of ex WH owners here and hopefully some can help ................

The WG's could have similar I think it was either a dicky shifter selector, fuel rail valve sticking .............. Have you noticed the fuel tank level when it plays up ??? low fuel level could point to a fuel temp in tank issue and the fuel pump has a hissy...

                My Jeep OBD code doesn't list a P1405 ....

Maybe its the ignition switch. Have a look at the sticky Clarky put together on the XH/WH forum. Maybe when the fault occurs you could hot wire the starter relay in the engine bay,not the solenoid, to see if she cranks.
