What did you do to your WK Grand today?

I had a set of Airbag Man bags fitted to the rear of my previous sprung WK2, due to the rear end sagging considerably with just the camper trailer hitched. (Who ever fitted the OME lift must have either kept the Nivomats not knowing what they were, or sold them on the side as the shocks fitted were the standard OME fitment!). I had Stu Murchison fit the air bags but then had constant issue with the right side losing air. It seems you have to be very careful when fitting to the Jeep as leaks are fairly common it appears...pita to have to pump one side up constantly!
They are still on my old Jeep, didn't bother taking them being this one has QL.

Gotta say I wasn't real confident with the Quadra Lift system when I was buying this Jeep, had read many horror stories with the very early ones...I did prefer the old Jeep with the OME lift, less working parts...but so far so good...great with the van on as it keeps the set up pretty well perfectly level. An added benefit is pumping it up to Offroad 2 when changing oil & fuel filters...no need to drive on to lumps of timber to get some height...

I too really enjoy my quadralift for 90% of what I do - but I really am quite nervous about it failing. Not because I think it will, but because it basically renders the vehicle immobile if it does... It leaves a bit to be desired over corrugations too

ZG had air bags fitted, quite liked them but didn't tow more than a camper and the odd mini excavator ................... in my truck tool box I carried some hose and fittings as well as a small tap so if any major line fail I could fit a tap on the airbag pump it up with a seperate air line and shut the tap off, got me home on many an occassion but no idea if the Jeep would be possible to do similar...

I think when doing suspension changes to these things many fail to realise that the original soft ride springs don't do much and the load seems to be carried by the Nivomatts which I think are a brilliant shock but they must be able to sit at their level, forcing them to a different position by WDH or other means will stuff them.... get rid of them and you need a HD spring capable of the 300-600kg load and shocks to match with the travel for a lift and the whole lot needs to be done, well thats my reading of the set up anyway ...

The tow capacity is allegedly affected if the Nivomats are removed, dropping from the standard diesels 3500kg to the petrol V6 capacity of 2850kg. I could never figure that out as the brakes are still the bigger 350mm & 330mm, the gearbox and driveline capacity are still the same, as is the engine HP & Torque.
Maybe the towball capacity is considered less without the better shocks in the rear, therefore 350kg is not advised? Either way, with decent air bags fitted imo the tow capacity would have to be reinstated...

It applies from what i could gather if you removed the Nivomatts and replaced with standard jobs and didn't replace the crappy original springs ............ unlike other vehicles no one seems to have got a RVD done for upgraded suspension on them so its all guesswork..............................I'm regretting using Sparesbox for the air bag order, be waiting ages me thinks, I'll never use them again..

Fitted some Bridgestone Dueler and an air filter....2k travelled....fuel 8 4/100...OMG !!!!(and NO hanging around involved...'up it' for 2k from Adelaide to Brizvegas)....Filter was only 10k old and had been 'tapped out' a few times....the new Bridgies....unfreaknblvbl...if they last the 60+K the NITTO's did they will be renewed each and every time...winnnaaar

What size? I am eyeing off 275/65R18 for my Trailhawk. That is 40mm larger than stock, so still legal.

I nearly went there with my latest new rubber but the LR I wanted not available and I would have needed a new spare just to be safe, so cost blew that idea out of the water ...... no real advantage and possibly more fuel burn...... extra 20mm lift is attractive though.

I just took off a set of 275/65R18 Maxxis MT772 muddies, had done 55,000kms and were getting a bit skatey, and fitted a set of Nitto Ridge Grapplers - 265/65/R18...the Maxxis were great, but I had drama with the tyres scrubbing on the ARB Bar when turning while reversing...QL suspension!...OK on Offroad 1, so I would always hit the button when heading in to a car park.
They were fine though on my previous WK2 with a 2" OME lift...I liked that they were 32's...

Mine has the factory 20" rims ..265/50/R20.....$400ea at Bob Jane with fitting balancing and old tyre disposal...VERY happy with that......NOT so happy that the EGR Coolant hose spat it's last hooray today...on hols in Qld....NOT good.
