Happened to me. My WH CRD has been off the road for near 4 years, due to it blowing heaps of white smoke. It has only travelled 150.000k. First decision by my mechanic was to check all hoses, sensors and pressures, no joy, so replace the injectors, I noted this is normally done around 270,000k. I got refurbished injectors from a Bosch service centre in Germany. Done, car was fixed, ran like a clock. 3rd time out, under a week, it went into limp mode. Mechanic crawled it back to his place. He decided to de-carbon all the inlet side. This seemed to help, removed the limp, but it was not great, engine was giving a detonation noise when pushed slightly. I took it home as he felt it might improve. Soon after, the 2nd or 3rd trip out, smoke pouring out again. I wanted to sell the car, but it was not registerable with all the smoke. No ideas. Parked it up. About 1.5 years later, I bought a 2015 GC Overland 5.7 Hemi, only 20,000k, out of Sydney. All great, but thought silly registering it when I still have the WH. I searched on forums for white smoke issues. Someone had posted that a ECU reset had fixed the issue. I told my mechanic, he felt it might be a goer. He reset it, the car was fixed, so much so that he sent me a video file showing it. He told me there was another Jeep with the same issue but also limp mode.. He got that guy in, again fixed. Yay big time. Later that day, my mechanic asked his apprentice, a tall guy, to move my Jeep in for the night, as I was collecting it the next day. Smoke was pouring out again, in fact my mechanic had a go at his apprentice asking what had he done. The other Jeep had arrived home. His wife had gone out in it, it was in limp mode again too. This is when it was realised that adjusting the drivers seat corrupts the ECU. My mechanic phoned 2 dealers in the US, who verified the issue and fix, a CRD only problem. He admitted that all the work and my expense was a waste. He has put in a lot of extra unpaid hours. My partner is shorter than me, hence the failures soon after the believed fixes. The other Jeep owner decided to sell his at auction. A 2008 with only 90,000k on it. I was thinking I'll sell mine as is for a low price, telling the buyer about the issue and "Don't touch the seat adjustment". Only thing still, an ABS fault. With my swapping sensors and the auto elec checking wiring, the ABS module is 95% the issue, unless the crook ECU is putting this up as well. So I need both a new or 2nd hand ECU and a ABS Module. I know the ECU needs to be programmed with the VIN. Went to the dealer yesterday, they tell me both the parts are no longer available. I asked the service centre about programming the VIN, they replied that once a VIN is in a ECU it cannot be changed. I doubt this is true, but I really do not know. With having to fix the ABS, I'm thinking I'll now try to change the ECU as well. Basically I see my Jeep as selling for $4,000 as is, $7,000 with the seat as is but ABS fixed, or maybe $9,000 all fixed.
Any ideas on ECU VIN programming, where to get the parts, and what I best do, greatly appreciated.
