Non start when hot fixed, but the cause has made me more depressed

Sadly I originally posted the problem in the WK forums,
The problem was the jeep wouldn't start again if it did more than 10k and you would have to wait almost an hour before it would.
The problem was the starter solenoid which according to the auto elec was caused by its dislike of the oil bath it was getting.
Replacing the starter wasn't something i could do at home as the left engine mount had to be removed so I had to suck it up and fork out $1100 most of which was labour.
He said it was ready but here's the bad news.. he thinks the oil leak is from the sump, timing chain cover and rear main seal. While that side of the motor might have had a lot of oil on it there was little evidence on the driveway, in fact given it sat for 3 months the light patch was only around 18 inches square and not wet.

Next step is to wash it down, drive around and see where the oil is coming from... oh and a stop leak additive , i hear re-seal by ATP automotive is recommended.
Between this and my '06 Chrysler 300c with the same motor i'm learning more about cars than i want to.

Based on my experience it was just your starter was old and with internal wear. Nothing to do with oil leakage.

Your oil leakage is probably the oil cooler mounted in the middle of the engine V, very common problem with these engines in Jeep and in Merc's (I've since researched....)
If you put it up on stands or ramps, remove the undertray, and have a look up from the back of the engine, if you have oil coming down from the top of the bellhousing down the passenger side, it's your oil cooler. Anther massive PITA job on these engines... Everything on top including all the intake, the turbo, everything has to come off to replace two shitty seals.
