Starter motor for WG 2.7 CRD?

I called my closet Jeep dealer and they said the part is now obsolete (including globally). I have done my own research and found that the most common specs for aftermarket starter motors are the following:
    12 teeth
    CW motion
    2.2 KW
    32mm gear diameter

I am replacing the starter as it finally showed signs of giving out during a trip with the SJC in Lithgow (photos soon). The starter made grinding noises and almost had to have the Jeep towed back home.

What is the most suitble replacement starter motors for my WG CRD?

I would suggest to just get yours rebuilt. I never got a true answer as to why mine had a different number of teeth compared to what the after market sellers said it should. Ended up just getting my original starter overhauled. Probably ended up cheaper too. Haven't had a problem since.

The mechnaic suggest a rebuild due to the parts availbilty and likley cost of genuine new. Ended up ordering a Valeo replacement.

In theory they should. The flexplate most likley idendical as it is also a Chrysler product with Merc 2.7. My mechanic likley ordered the Valeo one (VALEO 432644) - which I was quoted $390 for locally. As mentioned in the original post, most aftermarket starter motors for the WG CRD are 12 teeth.

Jeanluke, have you ever had to replace the starter motor on your WG? Did it still have the Mitsubishi one from factory?
