Everything 2.7 CRD

NOTE: I finalised this thread back in 2015 so please don't message me about it as I have moved on and don't follow tyhe information...

This thread is the updated version of WG CRD Filters. As before your input is most welcome but
Use the thread "2.7 Drivers" http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...d.php?t=124984 as a chat thread for " Everything 2.7".

This thread is a data thread...................................

Whilst all care has been taken to confirm these numbers the onus is on you to double check.
An * means I use them myself.

Specs and ID's:

Engine: 2.7lt 5 cyl 20valve CRD....WG............ Jeep: ENF .................MB: OM647

Transmission: 5 speed auto............... Jeep: DGJ .....W5J400 ...........MB: 722.6 ...... W5A580

This thread will pertain to those parts that are unique to the 2.7, which means basically Engine and Transmission most other bits are common on other Grands, references will try to show Jeep and MB part numbers, always try to cross reference as this model does have some Jeep part numbers of it's own that will not match common parts on other Grands or similar engines in other MB vehicles. The 2.7 engine does have other variations in MB vehicles the OM612 is similar but some bits aren't, many sensors are common on MB engines including the 3lt CRD so good research is crucial.

It is wise to source a build sheet for your vehicle, it will list every item fitted.

NOTE: Part numbers for MB or Freightliner/Dodge Sprinters may not fit your Jeep`2.7 CRD, but try Rockauto and look under Dodge 2004, Sprinter 2500 cross reference part with MB or Chrysler part number and you could be lucky.

Show them this pic to prove it. Numbers are confirmed as they are on mine, bought from Rockauto.

I get my filters from MBSpares in canberra http://www.mbspares.com.au/ quote the MB number, they provide Hengst, Bosch and Mann filters, made in germany and they are good, the price is bloody good, you must quote a MB part number though. They stock your general service parts as well as Tranny Oil, MB spec at a fantastic price.

Numbers in brackets refer to diagram in post below.
Alternator Pulley........Nuline...OAP007...IAT.....IAT391014
Link to post on subject; http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...18#post1258018
and here http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...=118342&page=2

NOTE: Available from Bursons, Repco, Supercheap etc.

This section is from Festers post in the above links:

OK lets see if we can clarify a bit more, here is the layout as per Nulines catalogue:

So the 253 is the smooth idler bearing/pulley and is available.
The 250 is the ribbed tensioner pulley but is apparently not available. It is the pulley only not the whole tensioner assembly.
The OAP007 is the alternator overrun bearing/pulley and is available.
These are all the Nuline part numbers.
Other part numbers for the alternator pulley are:
Klarius QH available through Rock Auto 1010101
INA through IAT is IAT391014. I found it throough that ebay link of Pipers but a search for IAT for me did not pick them up yet.
This is the page from the Nuline catalogue that shows the 250 pulley and the ones close to it if you want to source them.

The 262 and 046 look worth investigating and Piper has used the 026.
It is also possible that if the bearings can be pressed out of the pulleys then that will be a cheap fix as most of those bearings should be cheap and available from your local bearing shop. Bodgie has replaced the bearing only in the tensioner pulley under bearing number 6203ATN-RSVC3.
The bearing inside the heater clutch is also a standard style bearing similar to most A/C compressors and a number for that is 35BD5222DUM18A (OD=52mm, ID= 35mm, Depth=22mm),
I would suggest if you have original steel or Nuline steel pulleys then it would be worth seeing if you can replace the bearings only assuming the pulley is in sound condition. If you have plastic pulleys already and they are in need of fixing then it would be better to replace the whole pulley as a unit.
I also think I noticed Rock Auto had the whole tensioner assembly under their Sprinter listing if you need the whole thing.

If I'm wrong please speak up and clarify and hopefully Drover can put this info into the sticky topic where it will be easier to follow. If someone else has used a replacement for the 250 please clarify likewise if you have replaced the bearings in a 253 and have a number please clarify.

festers comments: Anyway I can categorically confirm that the front indicator bulb in a CRD WG is not the 3157 as per wjjeeps and the FSm but it is in fact an Osram 7507 which as far as my research can tell is a BAU15s. Single contact offset pins bayonet.

Rear lights; they are all the same globe , if the brake or turn sig blows just swap it with the fog globe whch is the very bottom one. see pic. While the pic shows as Wagner 3157 I pretty sure they are a Narva 47557.

Cross reference Jeep number to make sure you get the correct part, not all 2.7 engine parts will match. The 2.7 engine came out as a OM612 as well as a OM647 the engine in your Jeep is an OM647.

Just found this on a UK owners web/blog page if anyone is interested. "As intelligent CRD owners (well hopefully!!) you may be aware that the tranny "learns" your driving style over a period of time and adapts throttle response and change points accordingly. Therefore if you drive like Miss Daisys chauffeur

Injector Replacement: link to some informative sites includes Black death.

First off you will need to cut a couple of holes to get at the rear ones, here's what Ozjeepster has said on the subject;
Quote: Pull the plenum shroud off remove the wiper motor and remove the wiper harness out of the way there will be a small hole for a xmas tree plug dead center over injector 5 use that as a guide for 64mm holesaw i put a thin sheet of MDF over the injectors to stop the the saw from punching into them , take care when removing the return line as the plastic can be brittle apply even pressure to each side and wiggle out and once you have it out make sure you replace the fork bolt that locks the injector in place and the new one is torqued too 7NM + 90 degrees if you exceed this you run the risk of punching through into a coolant chamber and the head is stuffed . ENGINE OILS:

Recommended: SAE 10W-40 (if usually below -10c then 5W30 ) and you want minimum API CH-4 or ACEA B4, of Diesel Oil .

*Penrite HPR5 Diesel 5W-40 or HPR10 Diesel 10W-50 both cost effective and meet MB approval 229.5.
Since mines getting on a bit i have gone to HPR15 Diesel 15w50 semi syn, works and is cheaper.

AUTO TRANS:
DO NOT USE ATF+4 or DEXRON:

Only use oil that has a MB spec of 236.10 or 236.14.
Mercedes..............001 989 21 03
Nulon....................Full Synthetic MultiVehicle ATF
Penrite..................Full Syn Multi Vehicle ATF or Semi Syn ATF
*Bilstein MB spec 236.10 from MB Spares.
Fusch Titan ATF 4134
Liqui Moly...................TOP TEC ATF 1200

Above oils have been used by AJOR blokes with no problems.

TRANSFER CASE:
The Mopar oil is very expensive so use Mobifluid 424.
Search for thread on subject but used by many the world over.
PM Lubricants.....PM313HP

DIFFS:

I have used NULON 80W-140 Full Syn LSD oil or Penrite ProGear 80W-140 Full Syn oil no need for additives, with no problems but it can be a can of worms. Depends on usage, some prefer Redline with additive.

POWER STEERING;
Do Not Use ATF or normal Power Steering Fluid.
Jeep......... MS-5931
Penrite.....PAS Fluid
Note: If your fluid has a reddish colour use the above fluids, if it has a clear or golden colour then use Mopar MS-10838 which is the later blend. The Jeep (Mopar) fluid is surprisingly usually cheaper.

COOLANT:

You need to use a 5year HOAT type coolant.
Nulon..........Longlife RED or Longlife Green fit the specs, Red lasts longer than the Green.
Penrite........4 year anti freeze anti boil coolant........................................... ............ Readily available so better than Mopar.

NOTE: Always use products that meet the correct specs, a known MB spec is better than a MS (Chrysler) spec as they can get confused with petrol jobs, while Mopar may be the recommended type other than being more expensive the other brands which meet specs are more widely available and is far better to top up with the same fluid than mix and match. I have only noted fluids other than Mopar/Jeep that have been used over long periods by myself or trusted AJOR members.

Think I've transfered everything over and given it a rough sort, a bit more tidying up and all should be good.

PM me any ideas for improvements so things don't get cluttered with chit chat, basically want to keep it as an Info thread.

But keep checking it out as it will be updated when new info comes to hand.

Use this thread "2.7 Drivers" http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...d.php?t=124984 as a chat thread for " Everything 2.7".

This thread is a data thread...................................
No CHIT/CHAT please.

Other post's will be deleted................use the link above or PM me.

As of Jun2015 if you can't contact me about an update to the thread contact a moderator as I have sold my Jeep and it may be some big gaps between log ons.
Ian................
