So I had a chat with the technician and he said that the inlet manifold is leaking, he said that the gearbox has to come out to get to it

Any MB mechanics close by. If so get a quote from them.These engines are used in many MB vehicles. Cars, Vans etc. Sounds like he is having a bet each way taking out the gearbox !!!

It seems like a bit of a joke to me , I'm heading through to the dealer tomorrow for a sit down with them and go through the quote

Get a quote for a tyre rotation too... they might need to remove the entire car off each wheel.

So I got the quote yesterday $3000 for parts and $2000 for labour , I have ordered the parts online for $1000 delivered to my door , plus I have got extra , enough to do the oil cooler seals as well and replace the swing motor so I should be set [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
