ARB Locker in a Dana 30 Details Afternoon Gents,
Couple of quick questions if I may From what I am aware putting an ARB locker in a Dana 30 in the front of a TJ means an axle upgrade from 27 spline to 30 due to the ARB locker being a 30 spline carrier, is this correct? If this is the case, would I then be correct in assuming that my front diff in my 97 TJ that has a ARB locker in it has 30 spline axles? I know it has upgraded chromoly axles I just didn't want to have to open it up to get a spline count in order to purchase the correct master rebuild kit, the plan is to move the locker into a HP30 with new Ring & Pinion (yes I know about reverse cut) and I figure I will replace all the bearings and seals while I am there so getting a "Dana 30 ARB Air Locker Master Installation Kit" from G-2 should mean no issues when it comes to parts fitting? And one last question, am I correct in assuming that the ARB carrier in both the D30 & D44 are the larger size so I don't need thicker gear sets? Thanks in advance Red |
if you can wait until tomorrow, I will get the information you need from work.

better late than never...
ARB have 3 lockers for Dana 30. RD100 suits 3.73 to 4.88 in 27 spline RD101 suits 3.07 to 3.54 in 27 spline RD104 in a performance application & suits 3.73 to 4.88 in 30 spline only. chrome moly axle sets are available in 27 & 30 spline so I'd pull the cover & look for the part number to be sure. |
ok, here's the rest of the information.
I don't believe (but could be wrong) that there are thick cut gear sets available for D30. TJ & JK D30 share the same part numbers & carrier breaks. a JK D44 non rubicon rear locker (RD117) is the same as TJ D44 stock ratio rear (3.07 to 3.73) but can be used in a TJ with low gears by using a thick cut gear set. RD116 is the recommended part number though. |

Guess I will be opening a diff up to take a look seeing as I don't believe you can't pull a shaft without opening the diff on a Jeep..... |
