Fixed! That kit is nice.
As the website says "These look nothing like your OEM pins" but easy to install and fixed the thud in the back.
Actually, I didn't even remove the tailgate entirely....

Ok guys, found the culprit!
Bushing around the bottom hinge pin is wrecked.
Spoke to Jeep here, they only do a full hinge spare part for $330.
So I'm now on the hunt for just the bushing, OR...

Got the spare off thanks to a good bloke at Pedders (had the wifes car in for a suspension thing today and got them to whip the lock nut off for me).

Turns out it was the tyre...

Just went to remove the spare and start eliminating possible noises and came across my next problem... No tool to remove the security nut. Haha

Seems to be a pretty common one...
