I've had the Daystar stops on mine for 2 years without a complaint. They cost me $48 delivered from JeepKonection.

I think I still have my originals laying around somewhere.

Default Spare tyre tailgate rattle

Based on what you’re said, and as others have suggested, I’d look closely at the tailgate hinges.
On my JKU I found some movement in the tailgate hinges (33inch spare) and installed MORryde hinges - that’s when I realised how much rattle there was from the OEM hinges. Really impressed at how much quieter the Jeep is with the new hinges.

yep, when i went to a heavier tyre i got the clunk sometimes while driving, nothing was obvious when just shoving things around by hand, i ended up buying a carrier fix. i'd had no issues with the stockie though so the cause was fairly clear in my case

Ok guys, found the culprit!
Bushing around the bottom hinge pin is wrecked.
Spoke to Jeep here, they only do a full hinge spare part for $330.
So I'm now on the hunt for just the bushing, OR bushing and pin to replace.
If anyone has seen them anywhere, please let me know. Otherwise I'm sure something will turn up on Google

Somewhere nearby, you will probably have a specialist place that supplies nuts, bolts & various bits & pieces. They also usually have assorted bushes, or can refer you to someone else who does.

Update in case anyone else stumbles upon this thread...
Found these online (terrible website but got good service over email).
https://info008449.wixsite.com/dpon/jk-tailgate-usa

Will replace pin AND bushings on both hinges for about $100 AUD.

Thanks for all the replies guys.
