Default Diesel powered with Hydrogen

I have now seen several options how you can power your car (diesel and petrol) with hydrogen. Some are somewhat professional, others run it literally out of 2 olive jars and feed it back to the vacuum system. It basically runs similar with LPG alongside with the regular fuel and reduces consumption significantly. Would be great to run your car on 5 liter of diesel or petrol.

Just wonder if someone had looked into this or even tried it or even better, run on it. LPG is certainly an option but still cost you anything between 3 to 4k and LPG is also getting more and more expensive.

The hydrogen option cost you literally nothing except an upgrade of your alternator to cope with the additional load on the overall system and some elbow grease.

Are you referring to using a hydrogen gas cylinder fed into the fuel system, or the devices that were being sold about 20 years ago to fit under the bonnet and passed a current through water to produce hydrogen (and oxygen)?
The latter was debunked as a scam because the vehicle’s electrics can’t produce enough hydrogen fast enough to make any significant difference (recalling how long it took in science class to separate a minuscule amount hydrogen and oxygen from some water).
There was a recent AJOR link to an article mentioning that BMW and Volkswagen are pursuing hydrogen powered vehicles instead of electric, and the problems of electric cars catching on fire in flood waters.

What you are referring to is a scam.
The work being done is having a hydrogen storage system in the car that needs refilling.

Storing hydrogen is EXTREMELY dangerous, yes it can be done but last time i looked at a safe way to store it the tank cost upwards of $10k and i think that was USD, and as mentioned producing hydrogen on the go does not work efficiently enough, i have made hydrogen generators in the past and at most got a couple sparks when holding a match against it.

i now deal with safety systems used on hydrogen tanks and can confirm with current technology this is not feasible as a fuel source.

I know somebody who is working on LPG/Diesel and Hydrogen/Diesel conversions for large-scale mining engines. (We are talking dozens of cylinders and thousands of horsepower here.) In both cases, it runs on a mixture with diesel. The hydrogen has not yet been successful but the LPG works well. It does require a total rework of the engine management system. The issues to be solved include burn rate and flame temperatures. It is all very complex.

As best I know, nothing yet is available for passenger vehicles.

Jean,
you may talk about Caterpillar?
It‘s not only the engine management. As you already mentioned it is running on a mixture. The main reason behind it is reducing emissions. Testing has been successfully finished. Problem is the Cylinder head. You need to add additional components.
Dual fuel? Jesus, we do that since a decade.

Large scale mining? How about marine applications? Thats thousand hp per cylinder…

By the way: Mercedes truck is already testing the Semis. Production run is expected within two years.
