Thats the problem I will be towing a 2 tonne boat.
Reading these posts its either re-gear or stick with stock tyre size.

Yikes,you will hate it.It will still go plenty of places with std tyres.They are light and powerfull.

cost of re-gear
Hey fellas any idea on how much the cost of a re-gear (to 4.10 i think) would be? and where in brisbane would be able to do it? looking at doing 3.5inch lift and running 31's later on down the track. any help/ oppinions really appreciated!

Benny,around $650-$700 for the bits(landed) plus install.

I ran 30x9.5 with stock gearing on my XJ for years. plenty of heavy towing (ladden car trailers mostly). It wasn't ideal but it worked ok.....although I did cook one engine after massively abusing it on a very hot day.
I'd happy run the 30x9.5 again with stock gearing, as I don't like the idea of spending any non-vital money on the turdy5.
