Hey, you don't have to have a Commander to have experienced this problem. When I first bought my XJ Sport new in 95, I sufferered two punctures with those woeful OEM Goodyear Radial Wranglers. Faced with the prospect of having to buy 5 new tyres to continue my journey into the interior, I had the already broken spare patched up and back on the vehicle. One of the original tyres had disintegrated.

I had the help of the NRMA trying to source a tyre of the 225/75/15 in South Australia and Northern Territory. Instead of taking the Oodnadatta Track up to Alice, I had to remain on the Stuart Highway. NRMA placed a hold on the only new Wrangler Radial 225/75/15 in the entire SA-NT region [Beaurepairs Alice]. As it turned out, another tyre I was wearing had a 4 inch nail in it and I had been losing pressure all the way on the Stuart Highway. Had to stop at roadhouses to inflate or check pressure.

Did I get any help from Chrysler customer breakdown service or even head office? Well they said "the tyre is a product of the tyre manufacturer etc....".

It killed my holiday not having tyres available of the default XJ sport size. I got plenty of blank stares from Tyre dealers in the interim, who were trying to do their best to offer a replacement tyre [even they were reluctant to do it as it would have potential stuffed the car] or recommend another tyre size all-around.

Anyhow, learned my lesson - however, the XJ's Steel rims were never a problem unlike what has been said previously here about Commander...

This is definitely a problem, I'm trying to find a way to put a more common size tyre on. At camp coffs I managed to spike a side wall on the 245/70 MT ATZs (on the placid trip..... so much for taking it easy on the first day) and couldn't get a replacement anywhere within a several hundred kms (tried all day Saturday). As a result I couldn't do anymore trips for the rest of the weekend, just in case I ended up with only 3 tyres.

Hi Keef7. from what I have gleaned up untill now there are only a few options.
The most common size that has any chance of fitting is the 265 X 65 x 17" as used on the Prado and Pajero. The only problem is you will need a 2" lift and depending on the tryre profile, shape you may get away with standard rims, but will probably have to cut the end off the upper ball joint stud then cut a slot in it(just in case you need to remove it at a later date). The only other answer is to go for different rims with less backspace and offset( Wanderer has done this) then From what I have read you can go to 265 X 70 X 17".
This is what Chrysler should have done in the first place or at least Chrysler Australia should have modified them to take readily available tyres, given they are supposed to be a serious off road vehicle of 2.3 ton.

Default No Tyre Problem here

Just for the record on tyre fit etc. We're got 275/45/20's without any problem. never rub and plenty of grip for tarmac, sand and boat ramps..

Hi Wanderer,
I have seen the info on your previous posts and in Jeep Action but I need the piggy bank to improve before I can go with that option. I've also looked on the US site (the same one Jammy put the link to) but the tyre sizes it says you can fit with a 2" lift and standard rims are either not available in Australia or no more common than what we have, so that's not much help.

The MT ATZ are LT but it didn't do me any good. I'd really rather avoid engineering certificates as well, so at this stage it's keep on looking for options.

The Pink Roadhouse could order them in for you, but you might be waiting a little while ...
