Default 2000 XJ - What size alternator?

What size is the standard alternator in an xj?
I've got 2 hella rallye 2000's, 2 ipf 800's, a 600w amp for my speakers and i want to get a 1000w amp to run a sub... Will the standard alternator handle all this stuff? i will be getting a dual battery system but if the alternator cant keep up it seems a little pointless especially on a long night run...
Has any1 else run a similar amount of things??

Cheers Dean

Hi mate, my 94 xj runs two thermo fans, two 130 watt driving lights, two head lights that run 90/100 globes, blower fan for heater on full speed,A/C on and it gets around good. But when at idle then it starts to just get over to minimum voltage.
The second battery would be a good idea to keep things juiced when at idle.
I have had my Aternator tested and it but out 126 amps at 12.6 volts to the battery.
They are rated at 90 amps but i have heard of higher out puts on American Goverment jeeps ie Police, fire, emergency.
The out put of your alternater is governed by temp mainly (temp sensor is in the base of the battery tray) and does not have a built in voltage reg like on older type alts.
The JTEC ecu runs the out put it has the reg built in to it.

Every 100W of load draws about 8A.

So your alternator can handle "about" 1000W total load.

Unless you anticipate driving everywhere, at night, with all your lights on, and pumping 1600W of audio ... I think you'll be right.

Your amps only draw the power you are playing your speakers at, not the power they claim to be able to put out. For most normal listening your amps would not be drawing much more than 150W or so, and that would be pretty loud anyway.

Thats what i thought but i also plan to run a fridge later aswell... i guess when it comes down to it i'll hav2 suck it an see
I've heard of alternators that stop working because they have too much draw on them all the time... Is this something i should worry about aswell? Does it actually happen?

The fridge only draws about 3A or so (assuming you are talking a compressor fridge and not a 3 way fridge). And that cycles.

Alternators do have thermal protection (too much current draw for too long).

Apparently the stock alternator (on a '95 Sport any way) is 90 amps.
