Hmm not sure how that works, but would that mean it would be legal to drive anything that was registered O/S here or do they get inspected here before they are allowed on the road?
What if it were in poor mechanical condition or outrageously modified, blown 454 big block V8, rusted chassis, no flares, 48" bald tyres, no seatbelts registered legally in some small country in Africa?

They set up in Hervey Bay last Sunday morning, on three sides of a t interstection so there was no escaping... there was a police car at one of the three.

I was waved past, but they pulled over the 5 or 6 year old falcon behind me... go figure.

The one i went past they were going right over the little delivery truck from one of the local nurserys...

obviously some sort of 'directive' in force

Yes every vehicle that comes into Australia has to pass scrutiny checks and pass. Even some of the "said" ricers that get Imported here have to have there cr@py Tyres changed because they don't meet our standards.

You would not be able to get any thing like this on the roads of australia, let alone any other english speaking nation. You must have one wicked mechanic/engineer Jonny Jeep. Got a few pics for the folks ?

I did a bit of reading on t'internet and as in the UK a temporary import is treated differently to a permanent import. As long as my Jeep is registered in the UK and has a current UK MOT it seems it would be legal to drive over there. If my MOT expired whilst over there then I'd be in trouble as i wouldn't be able to drive it without passing local regulations.

My TJ's nothing special, only got 33s and a 4 inch lift. However as current UK regulations go there'd be nothing to stop me fitting bigger tyres and a body lift before shipping it out for a holiday before coming back home with it.

Maybe they are just looking at 4x4s as just another mob of hoons, and in some cases they are right whether we like it or not, its not all the Jap 4x4s that bring this on us law abiding lot lol
