Paper work is the only challenge with private sale and purchase...

Check the sellers safety cert is still valid and is for the car your buying - check the VIN yourself - one wrong 0 or O and some DOT offices will give you real problems.

Get the transfer papers signed and check the date - bought a car once and the owner back dated the papers by a week - took two months before I worked out that it was his speeding fine I got not mine!!!

And the same the other way - check your safety cert and make sure you date the transfer papers - don't leave it blank

A friendly DOT office I use is the one at Rosalie - they are relaxed. a fair but relaxed safety place - is Bizzells next to woolworths in pado.

Man all you guys are friggin lazy as shit!! I have only bought a couple of cars from dealers, you pay to much 90% of the time and when you trade in you get only have what you would selling privately. Buy privately REVS check just tells you it is clear and no money is oweing etc Check it over and if your not sure get a mechanic to look over it too, then fork over the $$$ sign a receipt take it to DOT and pay the stamp duty for nothing and walk away with a new car.

Wayne was waiting for that.

CMOHR I am probably a bit too late for this but just in case, make sure you do a V Check.... Very very important when buying private and inspection also a must. Many many repairable write offs being sold privately after being fixed and taken off the written off vehicle register 'WOVR'.

When you see what state a vehicle can be in after being deemed a repairable write off, you will never buy private or from a dealer without a V Check ever again.

V check and REVS can be done on internet collectively for about $55 from memory.
