so long as it is done by a lisenced mechanic.... if someone is asking what oil to put in the car, then they are probably attempting it themself, wouldnt you think so?

go to jeep and buy the mopar stuff and then DIY.....

i can see the story now " my motor seized up"
"what oil did you use?"
" i used (insert oil name here) cos someone on ausjeep said they used it in theirs"
" you've used the wrong oil for your car, it wasnt done by a qualified mechanic, you have a nice lawn ornament now, goodbye"

I get mines serviced by the dealership but supply my own oils except for the transmission oil. The have no problem using the oils I supply and it makes a hell of a difference to the cost.

Possibly, i did some research a little while back asking what oil seems to be better for the petrol not so i can do it myself so i can get my liscensed mechanic to use this oil when they service it whilst under warranty.
My warranty runs out in about 8 months in which case i will then service it myself

i have a diesel, just looked at the handbook for petrol and it says use 5w/20 oil. wrangler tj are you using that viscosity. seems insane to me in our climate, i'd be going for a 5w/30 as a minimum for au. what's your opinion.

Yeah, me too; 5w20 needs to be ordered in & generally can't be bought off the shelf in most regular outlets I've found here (even the Edge 0w is a 30); seems Chrysler specifies 5w20 purely because it helps to slightly reduce mileage and quicken warm-up (my dealer's service manager confirmed this off the record). Due to the cold climates in the US 5w20 seems readily available over there apparantly. Looks like Chrysler couldn't be bothered to alter the recommended oil specs in to suit the hotter climates in their export markets (lived in Germany for a while & noticed the Mercs & BMW's ran on much thinner summer oils there than specified for the same engines in cars exported here).

It's not like the JK's iron block, pushrod, low output & low-tec minivan motor is a high performance turbo-charged racing motor or anything; anyway the owners manual says to use 5w30 as a substitute when the 20's not available so there's the answer to warranty worries.

I think kerosene will burn cleanest and is probably easier on the environments that JK's tend to set fire in such as beaches etc.

Hope that helps.
