Default Overhead console mods

Hi guys I am looking to mod my overhead console, it is out of a 96 Zg limited and as mine is a 95 sport nothing other than the 4 lights which I have converted to LED's actually do anything so I am wondering if anybody has any pics, links or other useful info as to what others have done with these consoles.
Ultimately I would like a clock in the trip computer screen location and would also like a voltmeter or two for monitoring of the dual battery setup, some switches may also make their way into it as well for switching the voltmeter between the two batteries (if I use 1 voltmeter) plus a switch for the future onboard air compressor, a pair of switches for the thermo fans (1 to disable the fans for watercrossings and the other to force them into high speed mode as they run in dual speed automatically).
The wife would like a temp display to show how hot it is and I have seen one that also displays time and voltage but I don't know how good they are....

I will be making a loom to run to the console down to the under side of the dash with some spare cores in it for future expansion to save having to do it again....

Any suggestions appreciated before I start....

Cheers, Junglejuice

Juice, I havent done any consoles for ZJs or XJs but if you grab a couple of metres of7 core trailer cable you should have enough cores for all your wiring needs.

Gildo, the wiring isn't the issue, though that is a good suggestion, I am more looking at suggestions for gauges, clocks etc....

if you decide to use a small multifunction screen, you can easily hook it up to the obd2 port and have lots of things displayed.

Maybe a permanent mount Scanguage? I have the same notion as yourself with the Overhear console- my ZJ wrecker came with an OHC in it & made my basic lighting look sad! I have it in mind to scalp all the wirining etc to keep the various bits functioning & just squeeze a couple of more tiny things in.... like my locker switches (who needs a garage door opener?). Repco has a nice line of good size LED replacement light battens in (which the are/were flogging cheapish) which I have used in all the relevant spots- plus some small change!

As I stated in my original post mine is a '95 sport so it is OBD1...

I can't use a scanguage as mine is a '95 sport, OBD1....

You can replace the lamps in your Zg overhead console with LEDs quite easily, I did and with the 4 lamps on in the console and the one in the cargo area all LED they use a combined power roughly equivalent to the standard cargo area lamp which is great for camping duties.
I too am looking at fitting switches to mine for my dual fan set up as well as the compressor.
I have just gotten a console from an Xj Limited so this particular mod is now dead as I will be using the Xj console so I now have to transfer the LEDs over to it and prepare it for the switches etc plus I still want to add a volt meter at least to it...
