Default Front Infill Bash Plate

The amount of crud that I have been picking up in front of (and on top of )the engine bash plate has had me thinking about extending it forward to close up the obvious scoop effect. With the SJC Desert Trip (and then Jambo) just around the corner I also wanted to do something to provide protection for my transmission cooler hoses, and give the lower radiator hose a bit more protection from sticks. So yesterday I fabbed up an infill plate to sit in front of the engine plate. It's made from 4mm aluminium, which seems to be plenty strong enough for the odd stick etc that is likely to be kicked up there, and it will stop most of the mud, pebbles and other stuff that finds its way into the top of the engine plate. I doubt it will affect air flow through the cooling system but I will keep an eye on that for awhile.

First photo is the Before:

This photo is the After (side view):

Final photo is the Front view:

The yellow arrows are pointing to where I am going to trim off the lower plastic lip of the bumper. I will probably fall victum to 'cut creap' like some of our LOST breathern and wind up slicing it off much high (eventually). Anyone care to comment on the relative aero affects provided by that little rubber strip?

I'd say that the lower plastic lip would create a low pressure area behind it. Thus creating more air-flow into the engine bay. Yes, you'd better keep an eye on running temps.

Sorry Paul it would not be a worthwhile proposition. It's easy enough for anyone to knock one out. Just make a cardboard template and use the exisiting holes.

Thanks Chris, not sure I will be that radical at first. I can't see much point in cutting above the bottom of the nudge bar, especially if there is some aerodynamic benefit in leaving it alone.
