What 'standard' size tires does everyone have on their CJ? I've just scored some rims for the rego set but I am not sure what size rubber I should buy. Will the old school 750 R16's be ok? May end up running these more permanently anyway as the 33's rub pretty badly on the front springs.

Ive done some research on this to get mine registered (only allowed 15mm larger diameter in SA).
Largest factory option tyre for 78 CJ7 is L78 which equates to 235/75r15 in metric terminology. Was fitted to 8" wide 15" rim.Stock tyre was H78 which is a 225/75r15.
235/75r15 equals 29"x9.25" so 29x9.5" would also be ok.

Cheers all

Have found some cheap chinese ones available in town and also some 'Military' tires through Vintage Tires.com.au just wanted to make sure I'm buying the right sized DOT approved tires so that I can get through rego easily.

The 750 R16's come up often here at the local auctions whenever the Army change out the tires on their Landrovers which is why I was hoping to get away with the 32" size.

7.50R16= 235/85R16 Radial. 7.00R16 is 215/85R16. Coopers do both in an ST

Up to and including 1974/1975 CJ5 and CJ6 had 600x16 as standard. (Early long nose 5's and 6's had goodyear xtra grips) However I remember a early 1970 CJ5 in a show room in Adelaide having chrome bumpers, white vinyl top and slightlty wider tyres. 1978/79/80 CJ7 Renrgades came with 9.00x15 bias ply Goodyear Trackers on 8x15 wheels. CJ10's had 750x16 goodyear xtra grips.
