255/70/16 over here, they fitted fine with the stock 16X7 inch alloys with the pinch wleds left alone but when I changed to a 16X8 (MOAB) the pich weld had to go. A small price to pay I recon.

Good deals on BS D694s atm (at the BS branded tyre places). Got a set of the LT spec ones for $270each, balanced and fitted (265/65R17 for the grand chero), and also a $70 cashback from BS themselves.
Regular price was $350ea. I was going to go Coopers again (also around $350 ea), but could not pass the BS deal by.

Just done 6000km in the last three weeks, up to central oz from vic, quite a few hundred on dry dirt. The D694s are pretty damn quiet on bitumen (compared to Cooper ST and ATR), and go OK offroad on lower pressures (prob crap in vic clay mud, but haven't had a crack at that yet). No chipping or nicks, and i have only juust worn off the moulding nubbings on the shoulders on the front tyres.
I feel like I shoulda swapped to BS ages ago.

I reckon go with whatever is on sale and that is half decent!

Keep us updated as to how they wear. I have Cooper ST's that have just done about 40k, heaps of rubber left but they whine alot.

Thats what the radio is for, just turn it up.

Saw the KJ near the front fence at a certain installation near Bullsbrooke the other day, looking good Andy.

I've got Cooper STs on my KJ too. (D694s are on the WH). The main reason i didn't get the STs for the WH as well was the whine you mentioned.

Prior to the BSs i thought that the STs were a damn tough tyre. But after this last trip i'm thinking maybe they are not as tough as i believed. Granted on this trip i didn't do any gibber sections - but there was still plenty of rough gravel - and there's not a mark on the BSs. After the trip in the KJ, the STs were nicked a bit. Maybe it's b/c the ST has protruding shoulder lugs that get ripped up easily?

Up in central Oz, i noticed a 3-way split b/w the STs, D694s and BFG ATs.
I think that BSs are over-represented tho coz it was mainly newer toyos/nissans that had em. (maybe they are the OE tyre?)

In my opinion the Coopers are way over rated and that the hype around them way outshines their performance..... constantly chipping, constantly lossing lugs and so on.... BFG wil be my next choice I think, in saying that I have wrangler ATRs which replaced my coopers after 45000... not bad
