Also with the 9" I believe ford falcon AB 9" diffs are 60" WMS-wms.
Another apparently obvious diff choice that is rarely done.
Same amount of welding work as a tj d44, for a very strong and possibly the best supported diff out there.
Anyone has a guess as to why it is not?

On our XJ running 35's, we just swapped in an 8.25.
It was a direct bolt-in asside from drilling out the spring perches for my aftermarket Leaf centre pin.
Since mine is an update model I had to swap the handbarke lines over - but even then it only took a few hours to do and that was stuffing about heaps.
Whilst the 8.25" still has c-clips the cast centre section is larger than the D44 and the Tubes are also bigger than the TJ D44.

I got my D44 from here, my sister sorted out the install kit, detroit locker and gears while she was in the US and sent them too me, it cost $250 to get the gears, locker and new seals etc installed. The total cost was around $1600 but I did the cutting off of brackets and welding etc

Cheers
Steve

I run an 8.25 and 31,s on me XJ.At Jambo i wheeled with the Double Black Offroad boys on one trip. They run 37,s on some of there TJ,S/JK,S but only 35,s on the rest,ALL with twin lockers.I needed recovery twice on one VERY DIFFICULT MUDDY section of uphill track. But held my own on ALL other sections,to the surpries of others.Three tyres were rolled of rims, all BFG,S and all tj,S.My XJ was bumped and bounced around like a FKN pinball machine trying to keep up.The 8.25 took an absolute pounding and not only survived that day but got me and the camper home to Newcastle. Now all i want is 410,s and maybe a rear locker. On recent Watagans run the TJ behind me on 35,s snapped a rear driveshaft and the XJ behind him snapped an axle in his d35 on the rocks.P.S the 8.25 has thicker posts and gives a bit of rear lift too.
