Yeah, thanks all. Am headed for more troubleshooting now. Will completely remove the two new batteries; check all the cabling to make sure it is all good; put the old battery back in and work from there.

Have checked all the fuses - all fine as far as I can tell.

Did the 4WD Lo test yesterday - still didn't crank so I guess the interlock isn't it.

Will check out the voltage to the starter.

Ok - did all that, still no go. Haven't tested voltage at the starter - don't have a helper handy.

However, a question for someone close to their car. If you turn the ignition key to On (but don't start the car) and shift into 4WD does the 4WD indicator come on? Mine doesn't - and if it is supposed to then I may have a loose connector somewhere on the harness.

Thanks!

B.

Could it be bad timing and your starter motor has given up the ghost?

@95xjcherokee - possible and that'll be one thing to check.

@JK07 - I had a look at that and it looks ok. I did run wiring over that side because that's where I put the Redarc but I'm pretty sure nothing is broken there. I'll have another look.

Verdict: loose connector. Looked like it was plugged in and locked shut but wasn't. Had an expert look at it (ZBeast from Perth4x4) and when he really pulled on the connector it came open. Pushed it back together and away you go.

Odd that the computer didn't report anything wrong but there you go.

Obviously I'd just stretched it while putting the new batteries in and it wasn't quite making contact. I'd checked the connectors but wasn't rough enough with them. You learn something every day.
