firstly - the dual mass fly is used in the crd engine to remove some of its vibrations making it nice at the lights for the consumer market.

Dual mass flywheels can be machined IF the machinist knows what they are doing. The key is to not knock out the balance of the flywheel making the proportional mass of the inner and outter rings different, else they wont work with out re-springing - in which case it would have been easier to get a new fly from the start.

If youve lived with a desiel motor before and your clutch/fly is stuffed, id suggest ditching it and living with the light tractor motor at the lights from here on out. Will it be rougher? YES, will it last longer.... YES!

Default Clutch

I have spoken to Bob at
http://www.npcperformance.com.au/
He can build and supply and build a SOLID Clutch conversion kit for between $1500 to $2000. They make these for several other vehicles with the dual mass fluwheel such as the Nissan navara etc. he says the first one will take about 3 to 4 weeks, but after that, it will be almost off the shelf. The replacement clutch will cost about $800 when it needs replacing again.

$2000 plus instal is still cheaper than the Jeep price of $5000 (I hear).

I looked at this option as I would like to try the power chip upgrade, and could also be an option instead of re gearing.

As a current D40 Navara owner, I can say from experience (3 flywheels and clutches) that the dual mass flywheels are F'd. Even if you can get it replaced under warranty or machined, don't bother it will let you down at the most inappropriate time. Solid flywheel all the way, it will make you sleep easy even though your wallet may be lighter. The increase in vibration is minimal, the only thing I really noticed was an increase in gearbox noise, which was easily fixed with a heavier oil.
