Default XJ 4l in ZJ... easy enough???

Happy new year all, I hope wheeling over the holidays is going awesomely well for everyone.

Question is, to pep up a ZJ donk a little, its spoken about the ease of swapping heads etc off the XJ H/O etc etc to get some extra ponies. How hard is it to pop n entire XJ donk in? Mines just hit 320,000km and am looking to replace shortly. Thoughts are at this stage to get a XJ 4.0l, refit with hp cam and lifters (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-K68-231-4/ ), chip it, and have it ready to throw in when the current one dies.

Cheers

Mark

Should be a straight swap me thinks. Mines at 330k now and still going strong but she's leaking a bit lately so it may be easier to swap it out.

im hoping so. An acquaintance here popped a HO XJ into a TJ (which he was told simply couldnt be done), aside from getting new engine mounts made it was apparently very simple.

if it is too much hassel Ill find another ZJ 4.0l and do the intake manifold swap etc along with whatr Ive already outlined above and see what comes of it.

I believe a few of the ancillaries have different brackets, also some bolt up to inlet manifold.

i think you be right.... might go with stripping the intake manifold etc off the XJ one, and transplant it onto a donor ZJ one (along with other "extras")

.. now... i have a free TJ 4.0L (97) at my disposal. Behind it was the manual tranny.
I have searched all over and cant find any commentary on wether or not the TJ version is a straight bolt into the 42RE. And the usual question of the peripherals (pumps etc) again is raised..... If its a freebie and I can make it work then why not. (still with the #7120 XJ heads though)

Anyone... anyone....

Cheers

(and thoughts go out too to our QLD cuzzies)

Pretty sure itll bolt up but some ancilleries will need to be swapped.
I dont know if motor is externally balanced but shouldnt matter if youve got old flexplate.
