TwoNav is pretty damn good, it's OS is open folder type so mount it up to the computer and you can use it like a external hard drive. Drag and drop maps, tracks, routes and poi's etc...

It reads more than most formats in the software (CompeGPS). CompeGPS can give you scrolling maps when connected to the gps or have a gps dongle attached to the computer.

Any scanned map will work, I have NavTeq Turn by Turn maps for around town and the DEC 50K and 20K Mosaic maps for 4wding and Hiking. I've also made a few aerial photograph maps and use them for hiking and 4wd. Pretty cool being at Wilbinga with a birds eye view of the tracks.

Thanks I've been looking for an off-road app for Android which can use my topo maps I use with oziexplorer, I'll have a play with the trial version (although the UI gets a bit of a slagging in Android Market). I had a look at Backcountry, but maps import seems to be limited to those from goverment site Geoscience Australia, Creative Commons licensed, 1:250,000, http://www.ga.gov.au/mapconnect/. Those maps just don't have sufficient detail.

I want to be able to use maps I've already purchased (1:25,000) and import of GPX files for routes, tracks, waypoints, as well as saving the tracking I drive when exploring.

I'm using DOC maps that came in ECW format, import straight in. Also calibrated tiff's from Nearmap courtesy of their hypertiles software.

I used to have a Garmin and all my tracks and waypoints import fine. There are about 40 different formats it will open.

Good way of finding out what you can do is download the 30 day trial.
