Default Making the Jeep a Mobile WiFi Hot Spot

I know you can get these portable pocket WiFi's.
I want to boost one of these to have a much greater range, or is there a better system out there.
I want to be able to power it from the Heep & will run external antena.

Anyone done this (Hunty) with idea's suggestions or contacts speak up.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hunno

The output power of all the retail available units is the same. The only difference is the antenna, which much like the UHF antennas the higher the gain, the longer the straight line range and less hills it will go over.

What do you want to achieve?

To be able to connect to the internet whilst traveling in some more remote areas. Basically I have an ipad with WiFi & want to run an App that has full topo maps, street maps & GPS all in one app.
I have a mate that lives over an hour out of Cobar who has made a set up that he can access the mobile network

WIFI over 3G or NEXTG is what you're after. Having WIFI on the IPAD doesn't help, you need a NextG or 3G USB modem or you can pair the IPAD with a mobile phone and use the internet plan on that. Basically as long as you get a phone signal you'll get internet. So, when it comes down to it you need an external NextG Modem (for the best signal), and it must support an external antenna if you want the strongest signal possible. A WIFI NextG modem would work as well as you wouldn't have to plug it into the Ipad and the Ipad could connect to it through it's WIFI connection.

Hope that makes sense. If not I can show you my setup at the next club meeting.

Cheers
Steve

Ok here's the full story,
You need Internet via 3G, get a decent antenna and connected it to the modem. This could be any phone that supports making a wifi hotspot or a USB modem connected to a device that creates this network or a 3G modem that create the network itself.
The next step is range, if whatever way you decide to get your wifi network going is not good enough you need a wireless n 300 repeater. Lots of wifi modems have this in the settings you just have to set it up to repeat the wifi network you already have. Make sure if you buy this device it's 12volt for easy connection. Then your done
Let me know if you need more info or if you want me to try and supply through leading edge.
