[QUOTE=Paul-JK;1188148]Just been going through the whole "what tyres do I get?" drama. KM2's seem to come out on top of most comparisons I've read but I think there's a bit of a delay on supply at the moment so they may not be available if you need them urgently. If you are prepared to wait a few weeks for them though you should be able to get them $40 or $50 cheaper per tyre than the STT's.[/QUOT

I have been quoted $410 for the stt , and $426 for MTZ . They say MK2 are 8 weeks wait.....and $490

If you were happy with the STT's off road then your really after more of a road tyre than an off road one IMHO. I gave my old STT's away.... they were just so bad on slippery stuff ( frightening actually ) , but they did wear well i'll admit.

My MTZ's were a good compromize tyre in everything but sticky mud ( can't expect miracles.... ) but I'd guess that around 40k would be about it. I'm not meaning worn dow to illegal - more worn to the point where as an off road tyre they wouldn't be " acceptable'.

4WD tyres are a very big compromize - more of one characteristic means less of another. You need to decide what's most important for YOU and understand the tradeoffs you making with your choice.

The quotes I've had are around $420 for STT's (or same price for the new ST Maxx but that's more AT than MT), $400 for MTZ and $370 for KM2's (with a wait) but that's for 265/70/17's. That's all in northern beaches of Sydney so I'd hope to find cheaper elsewhere as everything is always expensive here.

Just to add my 2 cents worth.

I chose the BFG KM2's. Yes they were probably the most expensive, but personally I think they are quiet on the black stuff and a good off road tyre.

I have done over 30,000 Km on them and the tread is still in good nick.

Would highly recommend them.

I'm interested in this as well, I have BFG all terrains with over 100,000k on them so there up for replacement soon, I can't decide between AT's or
KM2's has anyone got high millage on a set of KM2's yet.

Sorry for the threadjack.

I would love to get the KM2's as every write up I see shouts their praises and they certainly look the part. I've been trying to convince myself for weeks to get some but the problem is that the car's my DD and for the number of road km's I do it's difficult to justify muddies. The extra road noise (though the KM's are supposed to be relatively quiet), the vibrations at low speed and the increased wear rate would all be easily dismissed if I was out off road every weekend and didn't spend half my week bumper to bumper in Sydney traffic but that's not the case at the moment.

Thinking of going with the 4-Rib ATZ's as they're a more aggressive AT but should hopefully be better in the daily grind and shouldn't hit the fuel consumption as much.
