This issue, to coincide with Jeep celebrating it's 70th birthday, we begin a series on the 70 years of Jeep in Australia. I have featured different segments of history in previous issues but this will be the first time it is all tied into one article, over consecutive issues. Records and information for the early years are scarce and I have been fortunate over the last eight years of publishing Jeep Action to talk with many people involved in the early years of the Jeep brand in Australia.
Some of the guys are getting on in years and it's good to get the history down on paper while we can. Everybody's contribution helps put the Jeep history puzzle in Australia together. The more you dig into the history, talk with others, study sales brochures and newspaper clippings, the more you find and this creates more questions. I hope you enjoy the history articles as much as I do putting them together.
I also hope you enjoy our coverage of the Classic not Plastic event. As advertised, this event is for all Jeeps, with the focus on the classics and it's good to see the newer Jeep owners attending and having fun. Hopefully they are eyeing off their favourite classic with thoughts of buying one. There was a good attendance by flat fenders and FSJs but CJ5, CJ6, CJ7 and CJ8s were scarce. I read on the forums that they are out there, so come on guys get your CJs ready for the next Classic not Plastic event.
Also this issue we have more Mopar Jeeps from Moab and some Aussies also attend Moab. There's an owner profile from New Zealand, Jeep Hospital, tech bits and more.
Enjoy,
Michael Bowen
