Thanks guys i,m pretty sure ill be sticking to the 170/2300kgs, most probably will buy a Jayco Stirling or Starcraft.

1.Australian made
2.18/20ft vans are below jeep specs depending what model you get.

an electronic brake controller is my next install

Ive already put HD springs and shocks in and currently drive around town with 6 bags of pool salt to give a smooth ride.

What i was most concerned about was the high gearing,
any ideas where and who i should talk to about lowering diff ratios
what i should get and where i should get them from

cheers

Senior Newbie i own a diesel auto, i tow a jayco dove it has a ball weight of 155 kg and thats not including 9 kg gas bottle. plus 2 jerry cans on the front so i would say its close to the mark of 170kg. i have air bags and i have standed springs in still. dont need HD springs .
my last car was a landrover discovery 4 liter v8 and it had a towing capacity of 3500kg and ball weight of 250kg
the jeep tows alot better than the landrover and it handles the weight better than the landrover ...

i have the petrol unlimited manual and tow a caravan regularly and its been fine but probably only ways 1600kg loaded.
I know JKohn tried to look at increasing the tow ball weight but came to a dead end with that line of thought

I tow a Jayco Discovery 21' with CRD manual. Ignore 6th gear when towing. Changing the original muffler with a flow through one helped with taking off at lights.

Would buy a auto next time though.

starting off on a hill with the 6 speed turbo diesel is not a lot of fun. i find i have to ride the clutch until the turbo kicks in the then its no problem, but until then very dodgy
