i suspect the outcome of any enquiry into the bld problem is that the chrysler mob will eventually say that the system works efficiently when used under normal on and offroad conditions. if it fails due to extreme four wheel driving it is being used outside the design parameters of the abs system, and the failure is due to vehicle abuse. just my guess.

I just realised you can its action in a static environment by putting the jeep on axle stands, in gear and giving it a quick rev.

ESP (well, its not really very possible to determine if it is ESP or BLD functionality as it is essentially the same system) goes nuts! Flick the lockers on and no noticeable ESP misbehaviour.

Not a good way to test methods of minimising its interference but gives a good idea idea of what the brake pedal feels like when it is in operation.

Be careful.

This problem occurs even with both lockers on if the track is hard enough. I had it happen to me at levuka fortunately it wasn't on a hill but just in a section of the track that was really rutted and muddy. All I wanted to do was stall the car by applying the brakes but all four wheels kept spinning and the brake pedal just got harder and harder. I ended up having to change gears to a higher gear to stall it. The problem is pretty common to a lot of traction control vehicles have seen it occur in a defender and a prado. Constant applying of the brakes causes the issue, I think at some stage the vacuum just can't keep up.

p.s sometimes it is acceptable to slighty depress the clutch momentarily going up hill if your revs are dying, a slight bit of slip can increase the revs to keep you going when otherwise you may have stalled.

Jeep have fitted an electric vacuum pump to the 2012 petrol JKs in the USA to provide extra braking assistance when required "which most people will never use"

I doubt it would be an easy retrofit.
