I have been using a $90 twin cylinder ebay special for the last year, hasnt let me down yet, pumps the 31's from 18 to 35psi in bout 1.5 minute each.
It was an old cheap one I bought about 15 years ago. Has been reliable but very slow so don't mind getting a new one that is faster. So many choices it is hard to know which will perform in the real world.

Thats the exact one I got from same supplier. Looks like they are down to $79 free freight now too.

Mind you you do get what you pay for. All the head bolts on both cylinders were less than finger tight when it arrived, but a few minutes giving it a good going over and had never missed a beat since. I increased the cable length by another 3 metres with some heavy duty cable though so I could have the compressor next to the wheel to easily access the power switch. I have noticed the guage reads a lot higher when pumping up than actual tyre pressure, so I let it pump til it reads about 45 PSI on the gauge, power off and the gauge drops to around 35. I used to always check it with a proper tyre gauge afterwoods, but now I know exactly where to stop so dont bother.

If you're going to buy a compressor dont get anything less than 72 litres per minute otherwise you're waiting all day to get to the pressure you want. The ARB compressor is superior to the ebay ones with the same delivery specs. I think this is because their manufaturing tolerances are tighter. As the pressure increases the flow starts to bypass internally on the cheap ones. ARB is the only compressor that rates its flow at pressure, the others are stating flow with no back pressure. The true measure of a compressor is how much flow it can produce at its rated pressure. I had a cheapy for a couple of years and it was good but the ARB one is better. On a recent trip I was able to do six tyres in the same time a cheapy took to do four. Another advantage of the ARB is that you can mount it under the front seats of a JK without having to drill any holes.

I'd like to get a warn Vtc but the 120 amp draw is what I'm worried about. I guess it doesn't matter that much when it only takes 15 seconds to pump up each tyre

Cheers
