Default Auto lock up at 90kmh!!!

Well it has been a while and Kj CRD has been to date pretty reliable.
The other week though the little so and so nearly put us through the front windscreen when at 90kmh the rear wheels locked skidded and then went on as if nothing happened. Pulled over, let it cool down as it was a hot day. Started again and went to limp mode. Booked in for auto service and was given the high temp code and an indication that reverse had been selected. ( Not so)
On advice from auto tech changed the oil and serviced the auto ( This gets done regularly) This seemed to have worked and today it has done the same thing again and is not showing any codes. 90kmh. 2100rpm
It feels (and this is a guess) that the torque converter is locking or there is a loss of fuel pressure causing a cut out. Both of which I would have thought would have tripped a code.
Also if I accelerate with full throttle everything shifts fine it is only during light acceleration that the problem arises
Suggestions?

You will probably need to take it into a Jeep service centre not just a transmission guy. BTW there have been some reported problems in the USA with the flex plate bolts coming loose, and these are normally changed if swapping out the torque converter.

Thanks glend. The bit I left out... Jeep actually sent me there as they had little inclination to do the job. I seem to recall, although I could be wrong, that there was a recall for dodgy torque converters on the 05 CRD.

There was a TSB (Tech Services Bulletin) on the 2005 auto tranny where they flashed the TCMor ECM to reduce the torque in certain rpm range to prevent damage/failure of the torque converter. It's called a T37 flash, pretty sure they would have done it to yours along the way.

If Jeep sent you to a tranny guy it sounds like they must have been convinced it was the transmission. How many kilometres on this transmission?

glend the trans has only done 128k. The convincing of the dealer only took a 2 minute conversation at the book in desk. Never even looked at the thing. Unfortunately it is service I have come to expect.
b-rad what was the cause of the TJ transmission lock up?

Hi,
Still trolling around here a bit since the ol' KJ went...
I would suggest a quick drop of the pan to inspect the filters. The reason I say this is I used to keep in contact with a very knowledgeable KJ guy in the US and he had a main filter cartridge split. Major pressure loss in the trans as a result.
