Hi I purchased a WK Grand Cherokee Laredo Aug 2011 and am new to the 4WD world. It doesn't have Quadra Lift etc fitted, so am wondering whether it would be suitable for soft sand and beach work considering I would be lowering my tyre pressures?

Your Jeep will be fine as it is, you don't need any mods for beach driving, just let your Tyres down to around 18 - 20psi, if you still find it hard going you cann drop your Tyres pressures down further, just make sure you don't do any sharp turns at speed with your Tyres let down to the lower pressures or you'll risk rolling a tyre off the rim

Plenty of soft readers go up the beach without much problem, you've got a real 4wd so go out & enjoy it, just make sure you have a snatch strap with you so you can pull all the bogged cruisers & pootrols out with (bloody spell check wants to keep changing pootrols into poo rolls, its smarter than I new)

Nice one Robh, (not Robh off hemi6pack??) the only thing I found when stock, was sometimes the fuel tank dragged a bit in the sand when driving in ruts, so just watch that and you'll be fine

Welcome mate.

That would be a WK2 you have there. It's a little confusing but you need to differentiate that on here as a WK and a WK2 are very different models. The WK is known as a WH in Australia, but in the US, the WH is known as the WK. So if you say it's a WK, we may well think it's the pevious model. Also, your details (top right) show a WJ, and that's the previous model again.

Anyway - in answer to your question, the car is great offroad, so sand is not an issue at all if you drive it correctly.

One thing - you will need to have "rated" tow hooks to get snatched out if you do get stuck, or to snatch someone else out if need be. Don't use the standard tow hooks that they use to tie the car down when in transit. They are not secure enough and can cause very serious injury if they break off under pressure. The same as you would never put a snatch strap around a tow ball as they have been known to shear off and go through the rear of the other vehicle and into the passenger area with great force.

.
The vehicle was built in May 2011 (the latest petrol model) so it would be a WK2 I would say.
My profile options don't have an option for WK or WK2 as far as I can see.

Thank you all for your advice...I will go and enjoy.

Welcome to the club.......... your Grand will do a great job belting up Teewah Beach, depending on what the beach is like you usually don't have to drop your tyres down very much if at all most times, other than the snatch strap etc you do need a decent pump to put the air back in the tyres, it's a bloody pain otherwise.
Need advice ? You'll find plenty here.......you don't even have to ask sometimes.
